At just eight episodes, it’s easy to breeze through Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen. Unfortunately, the chances of the show continuing aren’t the highest. It was originally conceived of as a miniseries. Haley Z. Boston discussed a second season, and she’s open to the idea. However, it would be an anthological series, not a continuation of Rachel’s story.
Even so, it would only happen if she could come up with another instinctive fear to follow. As such, fans of Something Very Bad will need to turn to other shows and movies for their horror fix. These ten are great follow-ups that capture the same spirit.

Jordan Peele’s masterpiece movie Get Out has cemented its place in horror history, and it’s a perfect next watch after Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen. The story centers on a Black man named Chris who goes to meet the family of his White girlfriend, Rose. However, from the moment he arrives, he starts to recognize that something is off.
Between the isolated environment with a partner’s family and the eerie sense that something’s wrong, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen feels like it was inspired by Jordan Peele’s Get Out and Stephen King’s Carrie. What’s more, social commentary is the cornerstone of horror, and the Duffer Brothers show, and horror movies fully embrace this.
However, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen and Get Out explore different social constructs and include very different plot twists. This will keep the Get Out viewing fresh.

The Haunting Of Hill House
One of the exciting surprises about Something Very Bad is that scream queen Victoria Pedretti stars as Rachel’s mother. She made her name in the Netflix flagship series The Haunting of Hill House, which has a different premise but plenty of narrative similarities. The story follows a family that is being haunted by their trauma as they return to their childhood home.
Both horror series delve into the systems that shape folks. Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen looks at the dysfunctional Cunningham family, and Hill House explores the complex family dynamics of the Crain family. What’s more, Pedretti’s two characters, Nell and Ali, have similar personalities and experiences being haunted by their own deaths. As such, The Haunting of Hill House is the perfect next watch.

Bridal horror movies and TV shows have become increasingly popular, and one of the most underrated is the 2006 supernatural horror movie Sukob. At the time of its release, it was the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time, and the success was entirely warranted. The movie is a great pick for anyone who enjoys Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen.
In the movie, a wedding curse caused by a malevolent entity threatens the lives of Sandy and Dale, as well as their family and friends, when they decide to marry. The slowburn suspense is fantastic, and the scares are extremely effective. The ghostly flower girl is absolute nightmare-fuel.

Brand New Cherry Flavor follows an aspiring film director named Lisa Nova, who moves to Hollywood in the 90s with a plan for vengeance. The plots of Cherry Flavor and Something Very Bad are extremely different, but they both include an exciting curse and an immortal antagonist. Plus, the scripts of the two series have stylistic and tonal similarities.

As soon as Nicky and Rachel arrive at the family Somerhouse in Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, Rachel learns that a serial killer called the Sorry Man is supposedly stalking the woods. He first killed his own bride. Now, he only murders brides, slashing them open with a knife. However, this is debunked halfway through the show.
He Knows You’re Alone is essentially that concept brought to life in an hour-and-a-half movie. The movie He Knows You’re Alone follows a bride-to-be named Amy who gets stalked by a slasher serial killer who only goes after brides. The movie is a fun watch for anyone who loves the Sorry Man myth. What’s more, it’s one of those slasher movies that’s so bad that it’s good.

I’m Thinking Of Ending Things
The 2020 movie I’m Thinking of Ending Things is a psychological thriller that fans of Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen will enjoy. The story follows a young woman named Lucy, who becomes concerned after traveling with her boyfriend to his family’s secluded farm. It explores the same idea of uncertainty in a relationship, but at an earlier stage than Something Very Bad.
Like the new Netflix series, I’m Thinking of Ending Things is very much a character study, examining the psychology of the main characters. Rachel and Lucy have a lot of similarities as the leads. However, unlike Something Very Bad, viewers don’t need to be worried about the blood and gore.

One of the biggest compliments I had for Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen in my ScreenRant review is that it managed to incorporate multiple horror tropes and genres without feeling reductive or derivative. Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities is another show that seamlessly embraces multiple horror tropes and genres.
The show is anthological, with each episode following a different storyline. However, in true Del Toro fashion, they all embrace spookiness and gothic horror. While all of them will appeal to folks who enjoyed Something Very Bad, the true must-watch episode is episode 4, “The Outside,” which was written by Haley Z. Boston.

Megan Fox’s thriller movie, Till Death, is a perfect movie to watch after Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen. If I’m Thinking of Ending Things is the fear early in relationships, and Something Very Bad is the horror at the point of marriage, then ‘Till Death is the terror of what will happen if someone marries the wrong person ten years after the wedding.
An unhappily married woman named Emma goes with her husband Mark to a secluded lake house to celebrate their tenth anniversary. He gets her a steel necklace, which symbolizes the shackles of marriage throughout the movie. The next day, she wakes up handcuffed to Mark’s dead body. She must find a way to survive Mark’s twisted plan that he put into motion before his death.

Ready Or Not
Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen feels like the spiritual successor to the horror-comedy movie Ready or Not, which became an unexpected hit thanks to its smart script, epic main character, and fantastic humor. The story follows Grace, a woman who discovers she must play a deadly game of hide-and-seek with her new husband and in-laws on the night of her wedding.
She learns that her in-laws made a Faustian bargain generations ago, and they must slaughter her as a sacrifice to the supernatural being Mr. Le Bail by sunrise, or they all die. Samara Weaving’s Grace and Camila Morrone’s Rachel are the ultimate scream queen brides who get screwed over by their husbands. The two characters have the same level of awareness of how messed up everything is.
The movie has plenty of blood and gore to go around, which feels perfect after the ending of Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen. Plus, Grace’s in-laws are just as eccentric and out there as Rachel’s in-laws-to-be. With all the similarities, Ready or Not is a must-watch movie after Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen.
