For all the issues plaguing the development, there’s been no wavering among the cast or creatives behind the NBC comedy’s feature-length return. All of McHale, Donald Glover, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Gillian Jacobs, Jim Rash, and Ken Jeong remain attached to the movie, with Yvette Nicole Brown also assuring she was being “reworked” into the script back in 2024. Still, things have been mostly quiet since Brie’s update in July that progress was essentially paused with no indication of when cameras could start rolling. Writer Andrew Guest, who helped Harmon pen the script, has made it known how difficult it is to wrangle together the old members of the study group, given their busy slates, but there may be a light at the end of the tunnel.
Glover has been making the rounds for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, and while speaking to Entertainment Tonight, he teased that everyone involved is still buzzing about Community‘s cinematic future. “We were just on the text chain talking about it.” More than anything, the multi-hyphenate Emmy winner wanted to reassure everyone that they are still making progress, even if it seems like things are completely stalled. And yes, he knows this is the billionth time fans have heard that. “We’re working on it right now. I know everybody’s been saying that forever, but I swear to you, I’m not lying about this. I really think it’s something that’s going to happen soon.”

Glover Just Made His Debut in the Nintendo Cinematic Universe
Right now, instead of a reunion with Troy and Abed, Glover has been more focused on a certain green dinosaur. Not long before The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was released, he was revealed as the voice of Yoshi, Mario’s (Chris Pratt) adorable companion and ravenous steed, who joins him on his latest journey to the cosmos. Released in theaters yesterday, April 1, the sequel to Illumination and Nintendo’s first billion-dollar team-up sees the mustachioed plumber and his brother, Luigi (Charlie Day), facing a new threat when Bowser Jr. (Benny Safdie) arrives to liberate his father (Jack Black) and restore the family legacy after they bested the king of the koopas. To stop his nefarious plot, they’re joined by old friends, new ones, and even a surprising crossover by Fox McCloud (Glen Powell), in a much bigger adventure full of wonder and danger across literal galaxies. If the previous film is any indication, it’s bound to bring in a planet-sized haul at the box office, powered by other big names including Anya Taylor-Joy, Brie Larson, and Keegan-Michael Key.
There is still no release date for the Community movie. Stay tuned here at Collider for further updates.
