Last weekend, awards season came to a high-profile end as the 98th Academy Awards delivered tears, shocks, and joyous celebration live from Los Angeles. It was Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another that came out the biggest victor, taking home six trophies and managing to fight off the close competition of Ryan Coogler’s vampire flick Sinners, which itself took home four prizes. ‘Vengeance’ (2022)

For something a bit different this weekend, why not try the directorial debut of The Officestar B.J. Novak? Also written by and starring Novak, Vengeance follows New York City writer and podcaster Ben Manalowitz (Novak), who travels across the country to try to uncover the mystery surrounding the death of the woman he was hooking up with, Abby Shaw (Lio Tipton).
For those used to Novak’s sharp comedic timing, get ready for a surprisingly nuanced starring turn from the actor in this underrated Netflix gem. A perfect option for fans of murder mysteries, Novak blends a clever, twisting narrative with superb dark comedy for a film that will live long in your memory after the credits roll. Alongside Novak and Tipton, the movie also stars Boyd Holbrook, Ashton Kutcher, and Dove Cameron.

It might be seven months yet until Halloween, but Netflix has delivered the perfect treat for horror fans this March. A new arrival to the platform this month, Saw follows the horrifying games two men must play to save their lives. After awakening on either side of a dead body in a filthy bathroom, the pair are forced to face a hellish, painful ordeal for the sadistic pleasure of Jigsaw.
Not for the faint-hearted, Saw is a grim, violent movie that leaves nothing to the imagination. So popular upon release, the film became the catalyst for a hugely popular and influential modern horror franchise. Luckily for you, should you enjoy the chaotic hellscape of James Wan‘s 2004 originator, another nine films from the franchise have also been made available to Netflix subscribers.

‘Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man’

Of course, your Netflix viewing this weekend would be entirely incomplete without the streamer’s biggest new arrival: Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man. In the middle of a self-imposed exile against the backdrop of WWII, Cillian Murphy‘s Tommy Shelby is encouraged to come out of violent retirement and don his flat cap once more with the future of his family and the entire country at stake.
A bold, exciting feature-length next chapter in one of the finest small-screen stories of this century, The Immortal Man is already a hit with critics and audiences after its theatrical debut two weeks ago. Alongside Murphy and a host of returning favorites, the movie also boasts a star-studded selection of new arrivals, including Rebecca Ferguson, Barry Keoghan, and Tim Roth. In Greer Riddell‘s review of the movie for Collider, she promised that The Immortal Man “gives you everything you could want in a Peaky Blinders movie.“
