Magical Princess Minky Momo is the next in the long-running magical girl genre to get a new anime. Almost 45 years after its debut, Magical Princess Minky Momo will release an original video animation (OVA).

Fairy Princess Minky Momo: A Duo of Sincerity Toward a Dream of Longing OVA releases in theaters later this year.

What is Fairy Princess Minky Momo OVA

Fairy Princess Minky Momo will be an all-new film releasing in theaters 32 years after Minky Momo in The Station of Your Memories’ 1994 release. This new OVA is about humans losing their hope and dreams. Diginarsa is the land of dreams and hopes, with its existence relying on dream energy.

Without Dream energy, this will cause the land of Diginarsa to disappear, but the king sends three companions to ask Minky Momo for aid. This time, on Momo’s 12th birthday, and by receiving a phone, which then awakens Momo to turn into Minky Momo. After meeting these three companions, Momo is set on saving Diginarsa.

While Momo collects dream energy, a new app has appeared that is used by children to talk about their dreams. These are seen as “frivolous dreams” to just pump up numbers and recognition. Momo starts questioning these dreams.

Is this really everyone’s dream? A world filled with everything you love… is that truly an ideal world…?

Who is Creating Fairy Princess Minky Momo

Fairy Princess Minky Momo will be directed by Ayumu Watanabe, who has directed and animated more than two dozen Doraemon films alongside worked as a storyboarder and character designer for more than 500 episodes of Doraemon. Watanabe is also directing the upcoming Witch Hat Atelier anime.

Hiroshi Watanabe will be a character designer and is known for being the director and key animator for multiple Slayers OVAs. Watanabe is also known for key animation work in 1986’s Fist of the North Star film.

Mari Tominaga will be another character designer on the project, and is best known for animation on Sailor Moon S: The Movie – Hearts in Ice, Detective Conan: Black Iron Submarine, Vampire Hunter D, and The Vision of Escaflowne.

Deco Akao will be the scriptwriter on the film and is best known for series composition on Noragami, Noragami Arigato, and Komi Can’t Communicate. Akao has also scripted Pokémon Horizons, Pokémon Journeys, and Power of Hope: Precure Full Bloom.
