9 Years Later, Rebecca Ferguon’s Most Divisive Sci-Fi Horror Movie Is Trending Worldwide Again

Rebecca Ferguson has been involved in a couple of sci-fi projects over the years, both for small and large screens. Most recently, she appeared alongside Chris Pratt in the critical and commercial flop Mercy, released earlier in January. For TV, her most notable sci-fi role is in Silo, the critically acclaimed dystopian drama, expected to return with a fourth season that fans have been anticipating for a while. As Ferguson’s sci-fi profile continues to rise, some of her older projects are experiencing a revival, including this nine-year-old Alien replacement.

Released in March 2017, this sci-fi horror film sees Ferguson portray Dr. Miranda North, a CDC quarantine officer from the UK. Her character, alongside five others aboard the International Space Station, makes one of the most important discoveries in human history; the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars — one that ultimately turns into a nightmare. The film is titled Life and also stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Ryan Reynolds, Hiroyuki Sanada, Ariyon Bakare, and Olga Dihovichnaya.

Almost ten years after its release, Life is trending on free streaming in the U.S., ranking among the most-watched titles on Tubi. Over the past two days, audiences have flocked to the sci-fi movie, contributing to its sudden surge in popularity. However, it has quietly exited the Top 10 as of this publication. Life received positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes upon its release, but now holds a lukewarm 67% critics’ rating, while its audience score is even lower at 55%. As for its finances, it grossed $100.5 million worldwide, including $30.2 million in North America and $70.3 million in other territories against a $58 million budget.
