Varuthini Ekadashi 2026: Importance of Ekadashi

Ekadashi is one of the most auspicious days in Hindu religion. The day has its own importance as the day is dedicated to worship Lord Vishnu. Varuthini Ekadashi is also known as Baruthini Ekadashi. According to Purnimanta calendar, Varuthini Ekadashi is observed during the month of Vaishakha and according to the Amavasyanta calendar, this Ekadashi falls in the month of Chaitra. Devotees observe rigorous fast starting from Ekadashi tithi and it ends on Dwadashi tithi. Devotees worship Vamana avatar of Lord Vishnu on this sacred day and people who perform puja and observe fast, get rid of all types of sins they might have committed in the past birth. It is believed that Lord Vishnu protects them from all types of negativity and evil energy. This is one of the most fortunate day to appease Shri Hari and get a place in the abode of the Lord after death.

Wake up early

Vishnu devotees wake up early in the morning during Brahma Muhurat.

Sacred Bath

You should take a holy bath after waking up early.

Set up an altar

You need to take a wooden plank and place an idol of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi in the form of Shri Yantra.

Diya lighting

Devotees should light a diya (an earthen lamp) with desi ghee and light incense sticks also.

Adorn the idol

You should adorn the idol with clothes and garland.

Offerings

People should offer five seasonal fruits, dry fruits, offer home made bhog prasad such as (panjeeri, mawa barfi and milk products) tulsi patra should be included in bhog prasad.

Mantra chanting

One should chant Vishnu mantras to seek blessings of the Lord and chanting mantras will remove all the sufferings of the devotees.
