A Quiet Place 3’s Casting Update Could Give The Movie A Franchise First

A recent casting announcement for A Quiet Place: Part III suggests the franchise could be exploring a new storyline. John Krasinski demonstrated his strengths as a horror director with 2018’s A Quiet Place. In the film, the Earth is invaded by dangerous monsters that can only hunt by sound, forcing the survivors to remain silent.

A Quiet Place was a critical and box office hit, earning a 96% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, and grossing over $340.9 million worldwide. It spawned a franchise, with two more successful movies, including Part II, released in 2021, and a spinoff, 2024’s A Quiet Place: Day One.

A third film is officially on the way, set to release in 2027. Krasinski recently shared an Instagram post featuring scripts for the upcoming third film, which also revealed three new cast members, Jack O’Connell, Katy O’Brian, and Jason Clarke. These are three great additions, and O’Connell presents an opportunity for a new type of character within this franchise.

A Quiet Place Hasn’t Had A Human Villain Yet

The primary threat in the A Quiet Place films are the deadly creatures that killed a large population of humanity. In the first film, Krasinski’s Lee and Emily Blunt’s Emily live on a farm with their family, isolated from others. They do their best to not make any noise, as the slightest sound could alert the monsters.

The second film explores the outside world more, and they meet new characters, including Cillian Murphy’s Emmett and Djimon Hounsou’s Henri. However, none of the new human characters were central antagonists. While there is a threatening group of humans at a dock, they are taken out easily by the monsters.

Day One also didn’t have a human villain, as it primarily focused on Lupita Nyong’o’s Samira and Joseph Quinn’s Eric as they try to survive the first day of the invasion in New York City. The monsters are the primary threat in each film, but that could change in Part III, which could explore the darker side of what people have done to survive in this world.

Jack O’Connell Has Proven To Be An Excellent Horror Villain

O’Connell has been on a successful run of playing intimidating villains in horror movies. In Sinners, he played Remmick, a vampire who wants to turn all the partygoers at Smoke and Stack’s establishment into fellow vampires. In 28 Years Later and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, O’Connell plays Sir Jimmy Crystal, the leader of a sadistic group of satanists.

Jimmy and Remmick are both menacing characters, but O’Connell’s charisma makes their roles as leaders more believable. They’re more complex than standard horror villains, and O’Connell expertly brings out their many personality traits, and they can quickly go from charming to terrifying.

A Quiet Place: Part III adding O’Connell as a villain would fit the story’s direction. Now that more people are aware of how to kill the creatures, there may be a group of humans who aim to seize power as society tries to rebuild.

O’Connell would be a perfect leader for this group, bringing the same charm and threatening presence he had in his previous horror films. It’s still unknown who he could be playing, but a human antagonist would be an intriguing storyline for this franchise, and O’Connell is a perfect actor for that part in A Quiet Place Part III.
