A Water Park Disaster Is Heading For PTMC

Warning! This article contains SPOILERS for The Pitt season 2, episode 9.Yet another disaster is heading for Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center after The Pitt season 2, episode 9. The doctors, nurses, and other characters of The Pitt have been struggling to keep up with the influx of patients from the Fourth of July and the removal of digital systems from the widespread cyberattacks. This week’s episode gave us insight into just how much they’re struggling, but it also added even more fuel onto the fire.

While dealing with the cyberattack threat from The Pitt season 2, episode 8, PTMC brought in new runners and old clerks as the hospital fell back onto the old pen-and-paper way of writing charts, ordering tests and scans, and prescribing medication. That alone has already caused havoc; Javadi has already missed a patient, X-rays are getting backed up, and more. Now, PTMC is also going to have to deal with multiple injuries from a disaster at a water park.

PTMC Is About To Be Flooded From A Water Slide Collapse

At the end of The Pitt season 2, episode 9, Dana received a call from PTMC’s red emergency phone. While we didn’t get to hear what she did, Donnie managed to see a news report on the lobby’s television that revealed what the phone call was about. One of the water slides at a nearby water park collapsed, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries. Since so many hospitals have been targeted by cyberattacks, those injuries are coming to PTMC.

The collapsed water slide could be truly disastrous for PTMC. The hospital is going to get a new influx of patients with crushed bones, broken limbs from falling, and possibly drownings and other kinds of injuries. It’s also only going to exacerbate the problems the hospital is facing from not having any digital systems and make all the wait times for everyone in the waiting room even longer.

Since The Pitt season 2 takes place on the Fourth of July, PTMC is also going to have a new issue they didn’t have to deal with during the PittFest shooting in season 1. It’s going to be very hard to convince doctors and nurses to come in and help with the staffing shortage without a huge tragedy like the PittFest shooting. Many of them will already be partying for the holiday. For now, it seems like PTMC isn’t getting any more help.

Dr. Robby’s Motorcycle Trip Is Looking Even More Foreboding

This week’s episode of The Pitt also added even more fuel to the theory that something bad is awaiting Dr. Robby on his motorcycle trip. As we learned in the premiere, Robby is taking a sabbatical and going on a three-month road trip to Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump on his motorcycle. The Pitt has already made some implications that Robby’s refusal to use a helmet could result in tragedy, and the newest episode has added to the foreshadowing.

At the end of the episode, Robby talked to Dr. Whitaker about his relationship with Amy and eventually asked him to watch his apartment while he’s on his sabbatical. Robby also mentioned that if he “doesn’t come back,” Whitaker could continue to use his apartment as a bachelor pad. Shortly before that conversation, Dr. Abbot also asked Robby to call him if his road trip gets “dark,” but Robby brushed him off.

The way Robby was interacting with both Whitaker and Abbot at the end of this week’s episode seem like cause for concern. Robby has been struggling with his mental health since the end of The Pitt season 1, and he mentioned earlier this season that he hasn’t found the right therapist yet. As such, Robby still hasn’t worked through the trauma of both COVID-19 and the PittFest shooting with a professional yet.

All of this information about Robby’s plans and mental state seem to imply something very bad could happen during his sabbatical. If Robby is still experiencing suicidal thoughts like he did in season 1, he won’t have his normal support system while out on the road. Abbot won’t be able to talk him down from the ledge. It’s far from confirmed, but The Pitt seems to be hinting that Robby may not return from his sabbatical at all.

Santos & Robby Treated A Kid With Missing Fingers & Parents Who Were Deported

One of the more in-depth new patients in The Pitt season 2, a young boy named Jude who blew his fingers off with a firecracker. While his injury was typical for the Fourth of July, Jude’s situation was more unique. After Jude’s sister, Chantal, arrived at the hospital, Dr. Santos and Dr. Robby learned that their parents had been deported to Haiti and Chantal was raising her brother by herself.

Jude had alcohol on his breath when he came in, so Robby had to involve The Pitt‘s social worker in the case. That caused some strife between him and Santos, as she didn’t want to separate Jude and Chantal. Eventually, the social worker determined that Jude and Chantal would likely be able to stay together, but they also indicated that Jude may have to go to live with his parents in Haiti in the future despite never having been there before.

Javadi Missed A Patient & Nearly Got Them Killed

The chaos of the cyberattack threat also created some serious issues for Javadi in The Pitt season 2, episode 9. With the digital systems down, PTMC has returned to tracking patients through a whiteboard. Javadi, however, forgot to put one of her patients on the board, and she was essentially ignored long enough for her to develop a sigmoid volvulus which required immediate surgery.

Javadi, in short, made a big mistake for the first time since she’s been interning at PTMC. Dr. Garcia made sure she knew it, too, and Whitaker didn’t have time to console her and help her stop blaming herself before he was called off to handle the patient with PCOS. Javadi is already beating herself up for letting this patient slip through the cracks and threaten her life. The guilt of her mistake may weigh her down for the rest of The Pitt season 2.

Mel’s Sister Came Into The Hospital & Langdon Treated Her

The last notable new patient at PTMC this week was actually a familiar face: Becca King, Dr. Mel’s sister. Earlier this season, we learned that Becca was experiencing a stomach ache, likely from a urinary tract infection. Now, a few hours later, she was brought to the hospital. Mel naturally freaked out that her sister was in the hospital, but she couldn’t do a full examination because she had to go to the deposition for her medical malpractice case.

Luckily for Mel, Dr. Langdon was available to examine Becca, and he was great with her. Becca is autistic, and Langdon immediately turned the lights off for her the same way he did for Mel earlier this season. Becca also revealed that she knows a lot about Langdon from Mel talking about him. It was a sweet and tender moment in what has proven to be a very chaotic and stressful day for both The Pitt and Dr. Langdon.
