Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s New Crime Thriller Earns Stellar Rotten Tomatoes Score Ahead Of Release

In the upcoming film Fuze, London is being evacuated after a World War II bomb was discovered at a construction site. Meanwhile, the evacuation becomes a cover-up for a criminal organization to execute a bank heist. Despite the two situations, their stories eventually intertwine as twists are revealed.

With 35 reviews now available on Rotten Tomatoes, Fuze currently has a solid 80% score. Most critics agree that the new crime thriller is stylish and suspenseful, with compelling performances from James and Taylor-Johnson. Although the film lacks a substantial narrative, it delivers a fun, cinematic experience that keeps moviegoers on the edge of their seats.

In ScreenRant‘s review of Fuze, Graeme Guttman described it as a “well-made thriller,” praising that James is “having a helluva a good time playing a villain,” as the bank heist arc “remains most unpredictable” due to questions about the true nature of the group’s relationship.

Unfortunately, it comes at an expense, as “the bomb plot loses its edge,” but “This paranoia gives Fuze the energy it needs to push forward even as it becomes unwieldy.” In the end, “Fuze ultimately subverts endings typical of movies like this, landing on a note that is weirdly satisfying for how abnormal it feels,” which is enough to earn a solid 7 out of 10 stars.

Fuze would become Taylor-Johnson’s third-straight movie to earn a “fresh” designation on Rotten Tomatoes since the critically panned Marvel movie, Kraven the Hunter, which earned an abysmal 15%. Following that release, his next two releases, Nosferatu and 28 Years Later, were well-received by critics and earned 85% and 88% scores, respectively. He will have one more movie releasing at the end of the year, as Werewulf will mark a reunion with Robert Eggers.

James’ last set of films also earned positive reviews, including The Monkey, Mr. Malcolm’s List, and Dual. The star is also returning for The Gentlemen season 2 on Netflix, which is expected to be released sometime in 2026.

In September 2025, Fuze premiered at TIFF, where it generally garnered positive reviews from critics. The new thriller has since been released in the United Kingdom and Ireland, but has yet to arrive in the United States. Thankfully, it appears that there will be a domestic release after Roadside Attractions and Saban Films acquired the distribution rights in the United States.

Alongside James and Taylor-Johnson, the cast features Sam Worthington, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Saffron Hocking, and Honor Swinton Byrne. Fuze is directed by David Mackenzie, who also helmed the Oscar-nominated thriller Hell or High Water.

Fuze is expected to be released in the United States on April 24, 2026.
