After 11 Years, A Marvel Hero Finally Gets Their Most Comics-Accurate Costume

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has officially given one hero a very long-awaited comics-accurate costume, more than 10 years after the actor first stepped into the role. While MCU costumes don’t have to mirror the comics to look awesome—in fact, some characters’ costumes, such as Falcon’s, are largely considered better in the MCU movies than they were in many of the comics—there’s a reason that comic-accurate MCU costumes are often applauded.

Of course, a major component of this is simply the nostalgia of seeing the comics costume come to life on screen, but even beyond that, there’s something to be said for a show or movie that can realistically replicate a comics costume in a way that truly satisfies fans. That certainly hasn’t always been the case for MCU costumes, but thankfully, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 has just pulled this off, and the suit looks next to perfect.

Daredevil: Born Again Finally Gave A Marvel Hero A Comics-Accurate Costume

Born Again Season 2 premiered on March 24, confirming that Matt Murdock has finally gotten a fan-favorite comics-accurate Daredevil costume. Specifically, the suit that debuted in the Season 2 premiere has the iconic DD logo on Daredevil’s chest that was seen throughout the comics—something that fans have been asking to see on screen for more than a decade.

Rather than an entirely new suit, this Season 2 costume seems to be the same one from Season 1 but painted black and emblazoned with the DD logo in red. It’s an interesting narrative choice at this stage of the game, but it’s one that actually makes a lot of sense given what Daredevil is up against this season.

Specifically, the Born Again Season 1 ending revealed that Wilson Fisk, now the mayor of New York City, has made all vigilante activity (such as Daredevil’s) against the law. His decision to paint his previously red suit black to offer even greater discretion is therefore a logical one. Adding the DD, however, feels like its own sort of symbol to Kingpin, making it clear that he isn’t afraid, and he isn’t backing down.

How Daredevil’s New Suit Compares To His Past Costumes

In fairness to not only Born Again but also the show that predates it, Daredevil (2015), the MCU’s Matt Murdock actor, Charlie Cox, has never really had a bad suit, including in terms of connections to the comics. Although it obviously didn’t have the DD logo, Daredevil’s Season 1 red suit in Daredevil (2015) was fairly consistent with his classic red comics suit.

Even before that, the thin black suit that Daredevil wore early in Season 1 was akin to his “Man Without Fear” costume from the comics, particularly in terms of the face covering he used for both of those looks. In fact, even Daredevil’s yellow and red costume in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law had a connection to the comics.

The first suit Daredevil ever wore in the comics, in Daredevil (1964) #1, had a red, yellow, and black design. Again, none of these were dead-ringers for the comics, but they generally came pretty close or at the very least drew clear inspiration from Daredevil’s comic suits.

The current suit seems closest aligned to his Shadowland costume, although the black paint over the red in Born Again Season 2 is distinct from that look as well. Regardless, it is absolutely thrilling to finally see the iconic DD logo in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, and with the season just getting started, so much more time on-screen is coming for this new suit.
