Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar and Minister of Large and Medium Scale Industries M B Patil on Friday launched the Airbus India Technology Centre at Titanium Tech Park near Kadugodi, Bengaluru.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu joined the event virtually.

Speaking at the launch, Patil said the centre can accommodate more than 5,000 employees.

He said the facility is the company’s second-largest digital centre and its third innovation centre globally. The centre would contribute to the growth of the aerospace, defence and information technology sectors in the state.

Karnataka contributes nearly 60 per cent to India’s aerospace and defence sectors. The state has more than 400 aerospace and defence companies, he added.

Airbus conducts $1.5 billion in annual business with India. About 100 Indian companies are part of the global aerospace ecosystem.

Referring to aviation projects in the state, the Industries Minister said a helicopter assembly facility at the Vemagal Industrial Area will roll out its first helicopter by mid-2027.

He also said Bengaluru is expected to get another international airport by 2033.

The airport will be on a similar scale to Kempegowda International Airport. Naidu assured support for the project. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced in the State Budget that a detailed feasibility report will be prepared for the proposed airport, he said.

Jürgen Westermeier, Head of Airbus India, was also present at the programme.
