E-commerce giant Amazon, which has started witnessing pickup in air conditioners and refrigerators sales, is expecting a strong double-digit year-on-year sales growth in terms of value for summer categories in the consumer electronics space.

The company feels the reduction in goods and services tax (GST) rates and its latest initiatives on AI to offer consumers different propositions at the time of purchase would boost sales for the summer categories. With effect from September 22, 2025, GST on key consumer electronics like air conditioners, TVs and refrigerators has been reduced from 28 per cent to 18 per cent.

“The summer season is setting in. The weather was not that hot till about two weeks back, but now we are seeing large pickup in sale for the summer categories,” said Zeba Khan, Director, Consumer Electronics, Amazon India.

“The GST revision has not only helped new customers, but also helped people upgrade and buy more premium products. We are seeing very strong numbers as the temperatures have been rising. The heartening part of that is that we are seeing a lot more momentum in relative terms on the premium ACs. The good thing is a lot of demand is coming from tier two, tier three cities, not just Metro,” Khan told businessline.

Six-fold jump

Amazon said cities like Indore were currently witnessing nearly a six-fold year-on-year jump in demand for five-star two tonne ACs. For one-and-half tonne five-star ACs, the demand increase was four-fold compared to last year.

“We are helping the customers to make right choices using AI. We have a lot of AI-driven tools on our app. For example, we have an AI chat bot called Rufus,” Khan said.

Amazon India announced the return of the Electronics Premier League (EPL) on Amazon.in starting March 6. The company said customers can discover deals and offers across a wide range of consumer electronics from the latest smartphones, smart TVs, laptops and tablets, to air conditioners, refrigerators, and washing machines.

“Last year’s EPL exceeded our expectations, and this year we are scaling that ambition across every dimension. Our focus this year is on AI-powered devices — from AI PCs to smart TVs to on-device AI smartphones — and we want customers to experience that shift firsthand,” Khan added.
