Helping to kick off the new era of Sonic the Hedgehog after 35 years is the upcoming release of DC x Sonic the Hedgehog: Metal Legion. After a successful comics run in 2025, the two iconic franchises are teaming up once again, and an all-new illustration is giving fans a fresh look at Amy Rose as Wonder Woman.
The Comic Collaboration Between DC and Sonic Is Back
Sonic has done and seen a lot over the last three and a half decades. In 1991, the speedy blue hedgehog officially debuted in his own self-titled video game for the Sega Genesis, becoming an instant smash-hit among teenage and younger audiences. He’s starred in many more games since, as well as TV shows, movies, and countless other media productions.
He isn’t a stranger to comics, either, as the 1993 Archie Comics Sonic the Hedgehog series quickly gained popularity before running for nearly 300 issues. However, the franchise’s latest venture into comics is something of a first, having Sonic and friends team-up with the iconic heroes of DC Comics.
Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Teases Amy Rose Is Just As Powerful As Shadow Thanks To Minor Detail
Sonic the Hedgehog 3’s post-credit tease gives a small hint that Amy Rose might rival the most powerful character in the Sonic universe.
2025’s DC x Sonic the Hedgehog was a limited series that saw Sonic and DC superheroes team up against a shared enemy in Darkseid. Now, another collaboration is coming in the form of another five-issue limited series, Metal Legion. In preparation for its May release, a new illustration of Amy Rose as Wonder Woman has been released.
Amy Rose made her official debut in 1993’s Sonic CD, originally under the name Rosey the Rascal. She has since remained a recurring character in the Sonic franchise, and is set to make her debut in the currently ongoing film series next year.
DC x Sonic the Hedgehog Is a Can’t-Miss in a Big Year for the Franchise
DC x Sonic the Hedgehog is just one thing fans have to look forward to in what is a year of celebration for the Sonic franchise. Though the next film will just narrowly miss the 2026 cutoff, it’s likely the release Sonic fans will look forward to most. In the meantime, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is scheduled for a physical release on March 26th.
Fans have also been speculating that a new mainline video game entry may quietly be in the works, hoping for a Sonic Frontiers sequel or all-new title announcement by the end of the year. Sonic Blitz, a mobile game by SEGA and Rovio, is also expected to release globally in 2026.
On May 5th, the first issue of DC x Sonic the Hedgehog will land in stores and online, followed by the second issue currently scheduled for June 3rd. The series is drawn by Adam Bryce Thomas and written by Ian Flynn, the head writer of the Archie and IDW Sonic comics.
