Now, Larian Studios is working on another game, and we have just got some insight into what we can expect. In a post made on X, Larian’s founder, CEO, and creative director, Swen Vincke, talked a bit about the upcoming project in development at the studio. Vincke highlights how he spoke to writing director Adam Smith, and how that conversation made him feel hopeful about the new game. “I’m talking about being in that stage of development where there is a lot that is still rough or missing, but where you sense that a game is coming alive,” Vincke explains.
What Is Baldur’s Gate 3 Studio Larian Cooking?
The Developers Have Confirmed A New Divinity Game
Vincke’s post doesn’t talk much more about the project that is in development at Larian, but it shows how it is coming to life, on the studio’s terms. We know that Larian Studios is now actively working on Divinity, a new entry in the series that will essentially serve as a reboot. The release date for Divinity is still unknown and likely many years away from even being revealed to players, but the game is steadily moving forward, and the team seems to have a shared vision for what it is yet to be.
Larian has yet to confirm if Divinity will be a turn-based game or an action-based RPG, but given the studio’s history and area of expertise, all signs point toward turn-based combat. Vincke’s post doesn’t reveal information about the game itself, but confirms that Larian is in a good place with the new Divinity game, as they discuss one of the game’s antagonists and other “micro-details.”
Will There Ever Be A Baldur’s Gate 4?
The Sequel TO BG3 Is Highly Awaited
After the tremendous success of BG3, many players may be wondering if and when Larian will be tackling Baldur’s Gate 4. The short answer is that the studio will not be working on the game. However, Baldur’s Gate 4 has been confirmed by Wizards of the Coast, owners of the IP (Intellectual Property). When the sequel to the award-winning RPG was confirmed, Wizards did not provide more details about when players can expect it, but said it will be released at some point in the future.
At the moment, Wizards is working on other games, such as the upcoming D&D Warlock game, so it seems like BG4 isn’t the priority right now. Even so, you can spend your time playing other similar games like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and Divinity: Original Sin 2, or perhaps turn your attention toward the upcoming Divinity as you wait for the true sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3.
