Batman Goes Super Saiyan in Dragon Ball Z Tribute From DC

DC’s Absolute Batman unveils a Super Saiyan transformation that makes him even more muscular than he already was. Of all Absolute Universe redesigns, Batman’s musclebound appearance is probably the most shocking. This version of the Dark Knight is no longer a millionaire with a peak-human physique, but a living tank with an equally wild arsenal.

Still, Absolute Batman is technically a regular human being in his universe, unlike the increasingly monstrous villains that come out of Ark M. To defeat them, Absolute Batman needs to push the boundaries of his impossibly strong body, sometimes having to rely on the help of allies like Alfred Pennyworth to come out on top.

Things would be much easier for Absolute Batman if he could unlock a massive power-up, like Dragon Ball‘s Saiyans.

Absolute Batman #19 is set to follow up on the reveal of Martha Wayne’s links to the Court of Owls, as well as explore the aftermath of Batman’s victory over Absolute Poison Ivy. Most importantly, Absolute Batman #19 will introduce Absolute Scarecrow, as revealed by the issue’s main and variant covers. One of the variant covers centered on Batman takes a lighter approach with a non-canon, Super Saiyan-inspired Batman, designed by Mario “Fox” Foccillo.

Foccillo’s Super Saiyan Batman design is shown charging up his ki, with a golden aura and black-and-red electricity around him. Instead of growing his hair, the spikes on Absolute Batman’s cowl grow in size and number. His muscles also grow even larger, resembling Vegeta’s Super Saiyan Second Grade and Future Trunks’ Super Saiyan Third Grade from Dragon Ball Z‘s Cell Saga. At seven feet tall, the obscenely muscular Super Saiyan Absolute Batman looks like a beast who could defeat Absolute Bane in seconds.

Batman’s First New Robin In 17 Years Won’t Be Who You Think

Absolute Batman’s about to get his first Robin, though I truly doubt it’s going to be one of the typical Boy Wonders (there’s some solid evidence).

DC’s canon Absolute Batman already resembles a Super Saiyan version of the Dark Knight. He’s many times stronger than most Batmen across the multiverse, more agile, and more brutal. Batman’s fight against Ark M is not too different from the Z Warriors’ recurring battles with the Red Ribbon’s creations. Though, Absolute Superman is even closer to Dragon Ball‘s Goku, as he not only possesses a similar power set but also learns about his full origins as a young adult.

How Likely Is A Collaboration Between DC & Dragon Ball

A Dragon Ball & DC Crossover Is Possible, But Unlikely

A formal crossover between DC Comics and Dragon Ball feels like the Holy Grail of pop-culture collaborations, but the barrier between the two universes remains thin. Generally, legendary anime properties like Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, and Saint Seiya don’t cross over too often with Western media. Moreover, Shueisha has been protective of the Dragon Ball license, and Capsule Corporation Tokyo doesn’t seem too eager to collaborate in crossovers.

Considering how the Dragon Ball franchise is experiencing a rebirth with Daima, the Super series’ return, Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, and the video games Age 1000 and Sparking Zero!, brand synergy may be too enticing to ignore. The likelihood of a comic book collaboration is bolstered by DC’s recent pursuit of outside-the-box crossovers. Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong and DC K.O. fully embrace guest fighters, including Godzilla, King Kong, Mortal Kombat‘s Scorpion and Sub-Zero, The Boys‘ Homelander, and The Conjuring‘s Annabelle.

Superstar artist Dan Mora also seems motivated to make a proper DC and Dragon Ball crossover happen. Mora is an outspoken Dragon Ball aficionado, as proven by his nods to Akira Toriyama’s work in Superman #28, which features a “Magic Spheres” anime poster, and his Superman & Goku fan artwork. This was followed by the surreal DC K.O.: Knightfight #4, which features a fictional TV show that unmistakably parodies Goku and Vegeta. DC K.O. #3’s Superman and Shazam Potara fusion and Mario Foccillo’s Super Saiyan Batman variant cover drive the point home.

How do you think a DC & Dragon Ball crossover would work?
