Areas of collaboration include photonics and fibre-optic systems, avionics, aerospace interconnect solutions and electromechanical assemblies for airborne, naval and land platforms.
The MoU was exchanged between Manoj Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of BEL and Chandrashekar H G, Chairman and Managing Director of SASMOS.
Industry leaders join
The agreement also creates a framework for joint participation in defence electronics, system integration and manufacturing to support defence programmes. The collaboration will focus on localising key components, increasing domestic value addition and strengthening production and exports.
The partnership will also focus on defence and strategic programmes. These include photonics and fibre-optic systems, avionics and electronic systems, aerospace interconnect solutions and electromechanical assemblies and subsystems for airborne, naval and land platforms.
Focus on key systems
A subsystem for a naval radar communication network was presented during the event. The subsystem was designed, developed and qualified within six months by the SASMOS team.
The exchange took place at the SASMOS Aerospace Special Economic Zone facility in Bengaluru.
Manoj Jain said, “BEL continues to expand its collaboration framework with capable Indian industry partners to enhance indigenisation and programme execution efficiency with our ‘country-first’ approach,” he said.
He added that the partnership supports domestic manufacturing of electronic assemblies and interconnect solutions used in defence platforms and export markets.
Strengthening local manufacturing
Chandrashekar H G said the collaboration strengthens the company’s role in defence manufacturing.
“Our focus will be on precision engineering, quality assurance and scalable production to meet the demanding standards of defence programmes,” he said.
Precision engineering focus
BEL operates under the Ministry of Defence and produces electronics for radar, fire control systems, communications, weapons, naval systems, electronic warfare and avionics, electro-optics, anti-submarine warfare systems, tank electronics, gun upgrades, homeland security, civilian products, and strategic components. SASMOS provides engineering and manufacturing services for aerospace, defence and transportation sectors.
The companies said the collaboration could support supply chains and programme timelines for defence systems in domestic and export markets.
