Born Again Season 2, Episodes 2-3

Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episodes 2-3

The next two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 have arrived, featuring an exciting collection of Easter eggs, callbacks, deep cuts, and cool connections to the comics and the Netflix era of Marvel shows.

While Daredevil: Born Again season 2’s premiere launched the major war between Mayor Fisk’s Anti-Vigilante Task Force and Daredevil’s resistance efforts in New York, the conflict definitely kicks up a few notches. With that in mind, here are all the biggest Easter eggs, references, and nods we found in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episodes 2 and 3.

Clinton Church

One of the most meaningful returning locations from the Netflix era is Clinton Church.

Visited by Ben Poindexter aka Bullseye at the beginning of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 2, Clinton Church was where Bullseye killed Father Lantam in Netflix’s Daredevil season 3. It’s the same church where Matt Murdock was raised after his father’s death, playing a key role in all three seasons of the original Netflix series.

Sister Maggie

Sister Maggie at St. Agnes in Daredevil season 3

When Poindexter asks about “Sister Maggie”, it’s revealed that she’s currently on sabbatical in Rome. Maggie is Matt Murdock’s mother, whom he reconnected with in Daredevil season 3, helping him recover from his injuries sustained in The Defenders. While she’s currently absent this season, one has to wonder if Sister Maggie might return in Daredevil: Born Again season 3, which is currently in development.

Bullseye Gets The Blue Light

Bullseye continues to get one of the coolest visual cues in Daredevil: Born Again. Just like in season 1, many of his scenes are saturated in blue light, including the end of this scene in Clinton Church and more scenes later on in these latest episodes. It’s such an awesome stylistic choice, directly contrasting with the key scenes where Murdock similarly gets red.

Cole North Returns To The AVTF

Cole North returns in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 2. After surviving his injuries during his fight with Punisher and Daredevil in Born Again season 1, North is determined to rejoin the AVTF.

In the comics, North also worked for Mayor Fisk against vigilantes, though he was eventually redeemed, becoming a major ally of Daredevil’s. However, it remains to be seen if the same will occur in the MCU as Daredevil: Born Again continues. The groundwork is arguably there now that he’s back.

White Tiger’s Amulet

The legacy of the White Tiger is set to continue in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 2.

After her aunt Soledad is taken by the AVTF, Angela del Toro rediscovers her uncle’s mystical amulet at Kirsten and McDuffie when she was looking for Murdock’s help. Apparently, the amulet has been kept there since the death of Hector Ayala’s White Tiger at the hands of the AVTF in season 1. A mystical amulet granting enhanced abilities, it’s pretty exciting to see the amulet’s return in season 2 (especially now that it’s in Angela’s hands).

@CityWithoutFear

A new underground resistance voice emerges with @CityWithoutFear. While appearing to be a rival to the BB Report, it’s eventually revealed that the person underneath the Fisk mask is BB Urich herself. Additionally, the name is a direct nod to Daredevil’s comic moniker as the Man Without Fear.

9

Red Pill or Blue Pill (Matrix)

During one of BB’s @CityWithoutFear streams, we get the classic red pill/blue pill analogy from 1999’s The Matrix to describe the current state of New York: Accept Mayor Fisk’s false narratives, or wake up to the harsher real truth.

8

Baseball (Bullseye)

Vanessa Fisk experiences an unsettling dream about Bullseye in Daredevil: Born Again season 2, including a baseball that rolls right up to her feet.

This is a nod to Benjamin Poindexter’s traumatic childhood as an orphan, which was revealed in Netflix’s Daredevil season 3. Believing that if he pitched a perfect game, his parents would come back, young Poindexter killed his baseball coach with a lethal pitch after he was prematurely benched.

7

The Punisher’s Hideout

After the AVTF raid on Josie’s, Matt and Karen relocate to a very familiar place at the end of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 2: The Punisher’s safe house that was first introduced in Born Again’s first season. However, Frank Castle himself is nowhere to be found, and it’s implied he hasn’t returned since he escaped from the AVTF in Daredevil: Born Again season 1’s post-credits scene.

6

Muse’s Mask

In Daredevil: Born Again, season 2, episode 3, Heather Glenn is revealed to still have Muse’s mask. After nearly being killed by the serial-killing artist, it’s clear she hasn’t fully moved on and is still deeply traumatized, motivating her ongoing work for Mayor Fisk and supporting his anti-vigilante agenda.
