However, the extent of Henson’s role in the MCU TV show remains to be seen, as Foggy was tragically killed by Bullseye on Vanessa Fisk’s orders back in the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 1. While there are no new Foggy scenes in the season 2 premiere, Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 1’s ending makes Foggy’s death even worse for a key reason.
Foggy’s Death Returns To Haunt Daredevil In The Season 2 Premiere
The season 2 premiere does a good job of catching fans up with how New York has changed since Mayor Fisk decreed martial law was in effect, and where every character is at. This builds some nice tension for the episode’s final minutes, which sees Daredevil save Cherry from Anti-Vigilante Task Force members. However, amid the mayhem, Cherry starts having a heart attack.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Review – This Is The Show Marvel Fans Have Been Waiting For
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 starts slow, but proceeds to morph into the perfect successor to the original series with shocking reveals aplenty.
The moment proves to be overwhelming for Daredevil, as Matt has flashbacks to Foggy’s death, when he listened to his best friend’s heart beat slower and slower until it stopped altogether. Distracted by the memories of Foggy’s tragic death, Daredevil is pinned down by the AVTF and subsequently unmasked. If not for Bullseye stepping in and killing the agents, the world would know Matt is Daredevil.
As such, Daredevil: Born Again season 2’s premiere effectively makes Foggy’s death even worse, as it is the reason why Daredevil’s identity is almost revealed. Throughout the episode, fans were treated to intense fight sequences — on the level of the Netflix Daredevil series — that showed how Daredevil is at the top of his game. However, Foggy’s death continues to haunt Matt, making him lose to lesser fighters.
Why Foggy’s Death Should Continue To Impact Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Before Daredevil: Born Again season 2 aired, Marvel confirmed that Elden Henson would be back as Foggy Nelson. While fans remain hopeful that it could include a reveal that he survived Bullseye’s hit or that a resurrection storyline is in play, the most likely path for his return is through flashbacks. Either way, Foggy will show up again in season 2.
If Daredevil was so thrown off his game by remembering Foggy’s death that he allowed himself to be unmasked, then Foggy’s upcoming appearance could be used to help Matt resolve some of that lingering trauma. After all, situations like episode 1’s ending can’t keep happening. Daredevil: Born Again season 2 shows Foggy’s importance without even featuring new scenes with him, so when that does happen, they should be quite impactful.
