It has always been awkward and irritating that Spider-Man, a “friendly neighborhood” hero, did not make an appearance in either Thunderbolts* or Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, considering they involved street-level events in New York City (where Peter Parker has apparently been active as Spider-Man for four years since Spider-Man: No Way Home).
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Takes Place After Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Official confirmation has been shared about Spider-Man: Brand New Day taking place after Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, but all it might have taken to realize this is a single viewing of the movie’s trailer. Here, we see MJ and Ned watching a news broadcast where Spider-Man is given a symbolic key to New York City. This key will probably play a bigger role in the movie than it may seem to, and yet it would not be a celebrated public event in the first place if Wilson Fisk was still the mayor, or if vigilante crime-fighters were still outlawed.
This basically confirms that Fisk’s reign will be overthrown by the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. It is not as if this was a completely unlikely outcome for the show when Daredevil and Jessica Jones are inciting an uprising in the streets, to be fair, but it is terribly odd that this trailer may have spoiled that before the second season’s first episode could premiere.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will require a ton of exposition to properly explain what the city’s current condition is. Still, the least this trailer could have done is choose not to spill those beans before the movie is released, which would have made the movie more satisfying to watch after having finished the entirety of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
Instead, audiences can probably begin watching Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 next week with the expectation that all will be well by the end, including both Kingpin and his Anti-Vigilante Task Force (AVTF) being neutralized, and that is rather disappointing.
Spider-Man & Daredevil Are More Connected Than You Think
Moreover, Punisher being out and about in Spider-Man: Brand New Day spoils that he will not be held captive by the AVTF for long. Daredevil: Born Again’s Season 1 finale post-credits scene, as well as Punisher’s upcoming One-Shot Special, ensured that his capture would be short-lived, and yet it is baffling nonetheless that we have suddenly leaped forward in time to spoil that in a Spider-Man movie trailer.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 could have a secret or two shoved into its sleeves, though. The Hand being in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is remarkably curious, and a theory being tossed around online suggests that Peter might be breaking Daredevil out of prison, let alone defending him from the Hand while he is incarcerated. That said, if Daredevil is leading a resistance effort in New York City and those efforts snowball into the Kingpin’s lawful arrest, perhaps it is Fisk whom the Hand is planning to assassinate in prison, not Daredevil.
Either way, Daredevil could turn out to be important to Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s story, and whatever goes on in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 could be a precursor to those events. We know Punisher is in at least two scenes in the movie (one during the tank pursuit during the day, and one at night), and his role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day is beginning to look like more than a gratuitous cameo at this point, too.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 31, 2026.
