Brand New Day Character Can Rewrite No Way Home

Spider-Man: No Way Home has one of the most emotionally devastating MCU endings. Although Tom Holland’s Peter Parker prevented a devastating multiversal incursion, the cost was a new spell from Doctor Strange erasing his true identity from everyone’s minds (including his loved ones). However, Spider-Man: Brand New Day may reverse some of those effects, perhaps with Sadie Sink’s rumored MCU character.

As bold as No Way Home’s ending was, it did create a storytelling hurdle for future Spider-Man installments. Although Peter Parker is expected to be more isolated and on his own, we know that Zendaya’s MJ and Jacob Batalon’s Ned have roles in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Keeping that in mind, Sadie Sink’s most rumored MCU provides an exciting solution.

The most persistent rumor surrounding Spider-Man: Brand New Day is that Sadie Sink’s character is none other than Jean Grey. If true, that would be a seismic shift for the MCU with Jean being one of the first mutant X-Men native to Earth-616, aka The Sacred Timeline.

Having been featured in Fox’s X-Men movies, the X-Men animated series, and of course, the original comics, Jean Grey’s Marvel Girl (and the first Phoenix Force host) is easily one of Marvel’s most powerful telepaths, classified as an Omega-level mutant with psychic abilities rivaling some of the most powerful cosmic entities.

Keeping that in mind, it would track from Marvel to debut certain mutant heroes in previous MCU films ahead of a major X-Men film from Marvel Studios. After all, Spider-Man himself debuted in Captain America: Civil War before having his own movies beginning with Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Furthermore, it can also be argued that Sadie Sink playing Jean Grey could provide the perfect solution for Spider-Man: Brand New Day when it comes to reconciling No Way Home’s ending (without fully undoing it).

How Jean Grey Can Rewrite No Way Home And Reverse Doctor Strange’s Spell

While it prevented the world from being torn apart, Doctor Strange’s final spell in Spider-Man: No Way Home erased the knowledge of Peter Parker from the entire world. However, it’s possible that Jean Grey’s impressive telepathic abilities could circumvent Strange’s magic.

Rather than undoing Strange’s spell on a global scale, it feels well within the scope of Jean’s abilities to selectively restore the memories of certain individuals (like MJ and Ned). Jean could easily bring back their repressed memories of Peter Parker, especially if Spider-Man and Jean end up becoming allies in Brand New Day.

Furthermore, a feat like that could be a great way to establish mutant powers within the hierarchy of various powers in the MCU. After all, the concept of Jean Grey bypassing Doctor Strange’s magic sounds very exciting.

With the Multiverse Saga coming to an end after Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, Marvel Studios is expected to begin a new “Mutant Saga” in the aftermath. As such, teeing up X-Men and setting the stage ahead of time does make sense.

That said, Sadie Sink playing Jean Grey has not been officially confirmed. Yet. With any luck, we’ll get that confirmation sooner rather than later when the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is finally released.

At any rate, telepathy being used to restore the memories of Peter’s loved ones without undoing the greater spell could be a solid way to get past the narrative hurdle without fully undoing the effects and consequences of No Way Home.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases in theaters July 31st from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.
