The actor has been away for five years, and when he returns, it will be to a world that has forgotten who Peter Parker is. That said, it will not only be characters like MJ and Ned who can’t recognize Peter, as Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s story includes a shocking twist that will make the audience and Peter himself see him with a fresh set of eyes.
Sony has released the first Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, with the footage showing characters like Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner, Jon Bernthal’s the Punisher, Michael Mando’s Scorpion, and many more. However, the star of the new Spider-Man movie’s cast is Holland’s Peter Parker, who we see pass out in the trailer, only for the character to wake up inside a web cocoon.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s first trailer has been released, and the MCU movie has confirmed the designs for Scorpion and multiple other villains.
As Peter is about to fall to the ground without any webshooters, Spider-Man manages to fire a strand of web to hold himself up, revealing that Peter will develop organic webbing in the 2026 Marvel movie. Peter goes to Banner about this, and we see Spider-Man being scanned to find out what is going on. Banner says that if his DNA is changing, that would be enormously dangerous.
The MCU movie’s trailer showcases how it will indeed be a “Brand New Day” for Spider-Man, in more ways than one. At another point in the trailer, Peter’s eyes go pitch black. Surprisingly, it seems like the film is doing a version of the Man-Spider storyline from the comics, with Spider-Man’s DNA becoming unstable and the hero being more spider-like.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is rewriting Peter Parker in a way that should make him unique among other live-action Spider-Men. Sure, Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man also had organic webbing, something that even became a topic of discussion between him, Holland’s Peter, and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man in No Way Home. However, he never came close to transforming into Man-Spider or something similar.
At the time of writing, the extent of Spider-Man’s physical transformation in Brand New Day has yet to be revealed. That said, the web cocoon and Peter’s eyes going dark suggest that there is something bigger at play in the MCU movie than just developing organic webbing like Tobey. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a more mature, street-level movie, so Peter’s dramatic transformation fits its tone.
