The studio has been working on the trailer for months, with it leaking last year ahead of a rumored release alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash that never happened. February looked like a great time to debut the first Brand New Day teaser, whether at the Super Bowl or attached to Sony’s animated film GOAT. Neither of those beliefs came to fruition.
And with the film’s release now under five months away, we might finally be in the right month for Sony.
Why Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s Trailer Releasing In March Would Make Sense
It’s quite common for studios to release trailers for new movies in conjunction with other in-house high-profile releases. But a glance at Sony’s 2026 slate leaves the impression that the studio doesn’t have any new movies in March. However, that’s not entirely true.
Sony Pictures Releasing International, a subdivision of Sony that handles international distribution, has partnered with Amazon MGM on Project Hail Mary. The Ryan Gosling-led sci-fi movie hits theaters on March 20 and is expected to do strong business at the box office. With the ability to attach the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer to Project Hail Mary around the world, it’d be smart for Sony to release it by then.
Additionally, Project Hail Mary holds a strong connection to Brand New Day through producer Amy Pascal. The former Chairwoman of Sony Pictures Entertainment played a pivotal role in bringing Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She has produced all of Holland’s Spider-Man movies through her production company, Pascal Pictures, which is also involved in Project Hail Mary.
While Pascal might not have direct control of when Brand New Day‘s marketing campaign starts, these existing ties to Project Hail Mary make it an ideal option for Sony when it comes to determining when and where the trailer will start playing in theaters.
The studio has already waited longer to start marketing Brand New Day than the first two Holland films, and with chatter about the blockbuster continuing to grow, it’d be a great time to really drum up more interest with an officially released trailer. It’d finally allow fans to get a better understanding of the plot and see real footage, rather than wondering when the marketing will start.
However, we’re not quite in uncharted waters yet. Sony waited until there was less than four months to go before showing Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s first trailer. That’s why it wouldn’t be a total surprise if Sony released the Brand New Day trailer right before or during CinemaCon, where Sony has a showcase on April 13.
It’d be quite shocking if the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer isn’t out by then at the very latest, but hopefully March won’t go by without it either, whether it plays in front of Project Hail Mary or not.
