So far, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has not been confirmed as part of Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast. In fact, the other MCU heroes who will appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, are also not on the anticipated film’s cast list. That said, it seems like the web-slinger’s movie could end up being connected to an Avengers release, just not Doomsday.
Given how his last MCU appearance was in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker has missed a couple of major events in the franchise’s version of New York City. In Daredevil: Born Again season 1, Wilson Fisk took over the city as New York’s Mayor, outlawing vigilantes and creating his violent Anti-Vigilante Task Force to hunt them down.
The Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Completely Rewrites Tom Holland’s Peter Parker
The Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer is finally out, and it confirms how the upcoming Marvel movie completely rewrites Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.
Spider-Man was nowhere to be seen, and it does not look like he will appear in Daredevil: Born Again season 2 either. The other major New York City event missed by Spider-Man happened in Thunderbolts*. The 2025 MCU movie saw the title team stop Lewis Pullman’s Sentry — one of Marvel’s answers to DC’s Superman — as his dark alter ego, the Void, cast a shadow over the city.
Anyone touched by the Void was forced to relive their worst nightmares. Given how this was a large-scale New York event with a powerful antagonist and Spider-Man is a character filled with trauma, such as Aunt May’s death in No Way Home, the hero’s absence was felt during the movie. However, it seems like Marvel might have the perfect explanation for that.
Sentry/the Void and the Thunderbolts might not appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, but the MCU movie’s trailer features a few shots of New York City with a dark sky. That unnatural look could be due to the film choosing to show what Spider-Man was doing during the Void’s attack. That would fit a specific sequence in the film.
Since four years have passed in the MCU after Spider-Man: No Way Home ended, Brand New Day could have a sequence that allows the audience to catch up with Peter Parker. That would explain why there are so many villains, including smaller foes like Boomerang and Tarantula, in the film. Among the threats Spider-Man deals with, the Void’s attack on the city could be one of them.
In the shot where the sky is dark, Spider-Man can be seen saving someone, which would fit with the character trying to get NYC citizens clear of the Void’s shadow. If that turns out to be accurate, then the Spider-Man movie would be directly connected to Thunderbolts*, the film that debuted the MCU’s New Avengers. While it’s not Doomsday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day would be impacted by an Avengers movie.
