Brand New Day’s Jean Grey MCU Debut Theories Just Got A Major Boost

Spider-Man: Brand New Day theories about Sadie Sink’s role have been going on since the actress was cast, and now that the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie’s trailer has finally been released, those rumors have received a major boost. With Stranger Things, one of Netflix’s biggest shows of all time, recently ending, Sink is ready to join the MCU’s slate of projects with a big role.

When the actress joined Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s cast, her role was said to be important, but the character was kept a secret. Since then, Sink has been speculated to be playing a wide array of Marvel characters, going from Black Cat to Gwen Stacy to Jean Grey and more. The latter would seem like an odd fit for the Spider-Man movie’s street-level story, but it might be accurate.

The Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Teases Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey Rumors

Sony planned a different rollout for the first Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer. On Tuesday, March 17, snippets from the trailer were slowly shared by Marvel fans from different countries. Then, today, Wednesday, March 18, the official Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer was released online. Sadly, the footage from the Marvel movie did not feature any direct shots of Sadie Sink’s mysterious character.

The Spider-Man: Brand New Day Trailer Completely Rewrites Tom Holland’s Peter Parker

The Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer is finally out, and it confirms how the upcoming Marvel movie completely rewrites Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.

However, the Spider-Man movie trailer did tease that she is playing the X-Men’s Jean Grey after all. At one point in the trailer, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man stops a rampaging tank. When he opens the vehicle to confront its driver, it turns out to be a harmless old woman. She smiles at him and then shakes her head, looking confused about where she is.

The camera then pans to one of the Department of Damage Control officers behind Spider-Man, who is seemingly mind-controlled by the same unseen character who took over the woman’s mind. We then see that presence jump to yet another character. Tramell Tillman’s character describes the threat by saying, “We are faced with a danger that we can’t control, one we can’t even see.”

The reason why Sadie Sink’s mystery Marvel character could end up being the X-Men’s Jean Grey then becomes simple, as Jean is one of Marvel’s most powerful telepaths. She can easily read and control minds, making her a fitting player for the threat revealed in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer. Additionally, before she was cast in the film, Sadie Sink was reportedly Marvel’s frontrunner for Jean Grey.

While Jean Grey’s mind-control powers fit the mysterious threat in the trailer, boosting chances of the Sadie Sink rumors being true, it would be quite a twist for Marvel to introduce the MCU version of the X-Men character as a villain in a Spider-Man movie. If it is truly Jean, then perhaps she could be acting against her will.

After all, another Marvel character was not shown in the trailer. Tombstone is reportedly one of the film’s villains, and his mob boss persona would make him perfect as the ultimate foe of this street-level story.

If Tombstone had something on Jean Grey’s family/loved ones or was hunting her — perhaps even the DODC could be hunting her, as they did go after Ms. Marvel and, more recently, Wonder Man — then she could feel cornered and lash out, as seen in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer.
