CBS Announces Permanent Casting Change To Justin Hartley’s Tracker

Colter Shaw’s team is getting a new permanent member.

To say that Tracker has gone through many changes throughout its relatively short run would be an understatement. It does seem like every single year, the goes through some sort of a rebrand, albeit only keeping Justin Hartley’s survivalist at the center of its storytelling. For what it’s worth, it doesn’t appear like any of the changes have deterred its massive following from tuning in every week, as Tracker remains the most-watched show during the 2025-2026 TV cycle.

Based on “The Never Game,” the show marked Hartley’s return to the small screen after the end of This Is Us. Upon its premiere in 2024, it immediately made a big splash, with Tracker dethroning NCIS as TV’s most-watched show on its very first year. Its premise is relatively simple: every week, Colter takes on a new case where he tracks a missing person, thing, or even animal. While he is usually the only one on the ground, he is supported by a remote team, which currently includes Fiona Rene’s Reenie and Chris Lee’s Randy.

As Tracker season 3 enters the final stretch of its storytelling, CBS has officially promoted Chris Lee to be a series regular on the show (via Deadline). Randy was introduced towards the end of season 2 as Bobby’s cousin, who came in to help the survivalist with his tech needs while Bobby Graise’s character dealt with a personal matter. Lee has continued to play that part coming into the current year, as Bobby officially moved on from Colter’s operations.

Before Tracker season 3 premiered back in the fall of 2025, it was announced that both Abby McEnany and Graise weren’t coming back as Velma and Bobby, effectively ending their two-year stint in the series. Both were a part of Colter’s team from the get-go as his handler and tech/information support. Before that, Tracker already lost Robin Weigert as Teddi, which meant that only Hartley and Rene are the only actors from the pilot who are still in the show.

Tracker Is Officially Dethroned As TV’s Most-Watched Show

Justin Hartley’s lone wolf procedural has been a runaway hit from the get-go, but it has been unexpectedly dethroned as TV’s most-watched show.

Ever since his debut, Randy has effectively taken over Bobby’s role in Tracker. However, even though he had been a prominent member of Colter’s team, even establishing a stronger connection with Reenie by moving into her firm office and working directly with her, he was still regarded as a recurring cast member of the show. Now that he is officially part of the main cast of Tracker, it’s curious if it’s an indication of bigger things for him. The CBS procedural likes to mix things up by tackling personal cases involving Colter’s allies, and Randy is already due for his.

CBS has already renewed Tracker season 4, and while a lot can still happen during the off-season, Lee’s promotion almost guarantees his return when the series comes back in the fall. If he and Rene are able to keep their current roles, then it would be the first time in Tracker‘s history that it would be transitioning its complete ensemble from one season to the next.
