Chenford Gets A Wedding Update After The Rookie Season 8 Brings Tim Back To The Field

Wedding bells for Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford might be the next cause for celebration in The Rookie.

The Rookie season 8 is proving its storytelling prowess, as the show continues to deliver solid episodes week after week. After opening with its ambitious Prague-set premiere, the Alexi Hawley-created project started delivering creative cases mixed with compelling personal narratives for the people in Mid-Wilshire. That includes the show’s undisputed love line — Lucy and Tim, who are now happier than ever in their relationship.

For context, The Rookie season 7 ended on a cliffhanger, as the pair tried to repair their dynamic following their painful breakup. Despite still being in love with each other, the procedural had to keep them apart in order to build their respective stories, although it was always expected that they would end up back with each other. Instead of further stretching the agony of the pair and their fans, Lucy and Tim officially rekindled their romance in The Rookie season 8 premiere.

Given where they’re at in their relationship, Eric Winter addressed the possibility of the pair walking down the aisle anytime soon in a new interview with Deadline. Acknowledging how far the couple has come in terms of their romantic journey, the actor agrees that the natural progression of their relationship is to tie the knot. He cited Tim’s growth, in particular, saying that he has definitely learned his lessons from his past mistakes. Read his full quote below:

“Tim and Lucy are definitely still building in a positive way. They’ve overcome a ton and I think what we’re going to see throughout the season is how they continue to navigate this work-life balance. I would say they’re getting to a really good place in their relationship, there’s some positive movement in a direction that I think they’re seeing each other, obviously they moved in with each other. So what I can say is that they’re in a really positive place.”

“I feel like that would be a natural progression for them. I think Tim has learned from his mistakes. He’s in it for the long haul, and wants to build a future, and sees that future. Will he get the courage to do it is one thing, and to dive back in with somebody at work to that level and take it to the next step, I think, is so.

Outside his relationship, Winter also discussed Tim’s professional storyline in The Rookie season 8. On the heels of Grey’s move to be part of the FBI joint task force, his character got an unexpected promotion to be the team’s new Watch Commander. There have been some growing pains as he settled into the job, but he is returning to his roots, going back on the field, and even riding again with Lucy. Check out what he had to say about the matter below:

“Good thing for Tim right now is, the first half of the season, he was learning this new role as Watch Commander, which took him out of the heat, off the streets, which, for Bradford, is a very tough thing. I don’t think he navigates that world the way Sergeant Grey did, so the rest of the season, we’re going to see him come to a solution and getting back on the streets. How does he do it more regularly, and throw him back in the action, juggling that with Lucy, everything that she just went through, is going be a big part of their story going forward, obviously, with his mom in the mix now too, whether that builds in the relationship or holds it back, is going to be fun to explore.”

To say that The Rookie season 8 has been intense would be an understatement. ABC hasn’t let up on the challenges faced by its characters, including Tim and Lucy. At the start of the year, the pair made a significant jump in their relationship by finally moving in together. Eventually, Lucy even met Tim’s never-before-seen mom, and surprisingly, they got along well. After that, however, she was subjected to a harrowing near-death experience that continues to haunt her until now. It would be a disservice to her character if that plot doesn’t get to properly play out because The Rookie prioritized her and Tim’s wedding.

The Rookie Is Officially Changing Formats After 8 Years

After 8 years, ABC is officially shifting the storytelling format for The Rookie, setting an exciting future for the Alexi Hawley-created show.

It’s worth noting that this doesn’t mean that Lucy and Tim will never tie the knot. If anything, that’s almost a given, unless Hawley wants to draw unnecessary backlash from fans. There’s no doubt that the pair is endgame in The Rookie, and while it will be nice to see them finally get married, there’s also no rush to doing it. Lucy and Tim have just moved in together, and the series can explore this new story stage for them.
