Chris Hemsworth & Mark Ruffalo’s New Crime Thriller Instantly Steals Prime Video’s Top Streaming Spot From Sci-Fi Hit

Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo’s new crime thriller has become an instant streaming hit.

Following a rather disappointing theatrical stint, Hemsworth and Ruffalo’s newest movie, Crime 101, has stolen Prime Video’s top streaming spot from a major sci-fi hit. The movie follows Hemsworth as Mike Davis, a professional jewel thief in a cat-and-mouse conflict with Ruffalo’s Detective Lou Lubesnick. Reviews for Crime 101 have been incredibly positive, though the film underperformed at the box office.

Now, FlixPatrol reports that, after just one day on Prime Video, Crime 101 has taken the Number 1 spot on the platform. According to data from April 2, 2026, the movie is at the very top worldwide. This includes being Number 1 in 29 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Argentina, and Italy.

What makes its Number 1 spot on Prime Video so impressive is how the movie managed to quickly overtake Mercy, a sci-fi thriller starring Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson. The previous film had been at the top of Prime Video before Crime 101‘s release, and now sits at Number 2 overall — but is still Number 1 in six countries worldwide.

What Crime 101 Overtaking Mercy Says About The Movie

Crime 101 and Mercy have a multitude of similarities in terms of their production and release. Both movies were distributed by Amazon MGM Studios in theaters, and both star actors who were previously part of Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. They also both underperformed at the box office despite having budgets in the high seven figures.

Where they differ, though, is in reception. While Crime 101 sports a Certified Fresh 89% from 186 critics on Rotten Tomatoes, reviews for Mercy were much the opposite. The film holds a 25% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 178 critic reviews, showing it was near-universally panned upon its theatrical release.

This reception no doubt helped Crime 101 rise to the top as soon as it came to Prime Video. While both movies have earned praise from audiences, the crime thriller’s high-octane thrills, grounded storytelling, and stellar performances are the reason it’s managed to become such a massive hit so quickly on the streaming platform.

Crime 101 Is Just The Start For Hemsworth & Ruffalo’s Major 2026 Releases

Although Crime 101 is clearly a major release for both Hemsworth and Ruffalo, it’s not the only movie coming in 2026 that see them in exciting lead roles. Both will be returning for Marvel movies later this year: Ruffalo comes back as Bruce Banner in Spider-Man: Brand New Day in July, while Hemsworth reprises his role as Thor for Avengers: Doomsday in December.

The pair have other projects beyond the MCU in the works as well. Ruffalo will also be part of the Netflix rom-com movie Good Sex, slated for release later this year. While Hemsworth doesn’t have any other projects confirmed for a 2026 release, he’ll also be starring in action film Stuntnuts: The Movie and action thriller Subversion.

Even though Crime 101 didn’t make as big a mark at the box office as it was aiming for, its instant streaming success emphasizes how audiences at home are itching for a good crime thriller. Having overtaken Mercy, it seems like the film will remain popular on Prime Video for quite some time to come.
