The series added in the Norse pantheon in the 2018 soft reboot, which earned a sequel, God of War Ragnarök, in 2022. The franchise and lore have only gotten deeper and more epic in scope with each installment. God of War has entered production, and news about the story and cast has been slowly rolling out.
Prime Video’s God Of War Show Was Announced In 2022
The live-action God of War show is confirmed and has been since 2022. God of War‘s confirmation arrived in May 2022 during Sony Pictures’ investor meeting at the end of its second quarter of the year. Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan (via a Resetera user) confirmed the series is in development and will be released on Amazon Prime Video.
A creative shakeup happened behind-the-scenes in late 2024, and writer/producer/showrunner Ronald D. Moore was brought in to oversee the series. Moore’s experience on shows like Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and Outlander suits him to this epic, though it’s unclear how far along development has progressed.
In March 2025, Moore announced that Amazon Prime Video wanted two seasons of the series. Filming for the series began in late February 2026 and is expected to wrap in early April 2027. There is no release date for the show yet.

God Of War Production Updates & Recent News
The God of War TV show recently began filming on February 27, 2026, in Vancouver, Canada. Filming is expected to wrap on April 7, 2027. Recently, Prime Video released the first image from the series, a still of Kratos teaching Atreus how to shoot a bow.
The image has received mixed reactions online, including from David Jaffe, the creator of the video game series, who said the image was “so bad in so many ways,” (via Variety). Ryan Hurst posted on his Instagram about the image, “Don’t believe everything you see on the internet, kids.”
What that means is anyone’s guess for now. Whatever your feelings, it’s clear that the God of War TV show already has a lot of interest and expectations surrounding it.
