Will Cyberpunk 2077 Get A Second Expansion?
At the time of writing, Cyberpunk 2077 has been the subject of multiple major updates, as well as its “first and only” expansion, Phantom Liberty. Since the launch of the DLC, CDPR has been clear that this is the only planned expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, but thanks to its success, fans have secretly been hoping that this will not be the case. However, with the team now turning its attention to the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, as well as The Witcher IV, and a number of other projects, it seems unlikely that a second DLC is on the cards.
Not only that, but according to Cyberpunk 2 creative director Igor Sarzynski back in January, “the game cannot be infinite,” and existing content would have to be removed in order to make way for new ideas. Put simply, adding new content is something they “could do”, but doing so would risk Cyberpunk 2077‘s current story, especially anything relating to the love interest system present in the RPG.
“Sure we could do it – by removing something less popular, like, idk Judy or Panam romances.”
Cyberpunk 2077’s Sequel Should Be The Focus
With the highly anticipated sequel currently in development, it would make the most sense to focus on that, rather than go back to change things in Cyberpunk 2077. After all, after five years of dedication, the first game has hit near perfection, and with its Phantom Liberty DLC being an award-winning expansion, it would be hard to beat. If anything, fans wanting changes to certain features can instead be taken onboard by developers and adapted into the sequel after all. However, over on r/cyberpunkgame, fans came together to share their thoughts on this conundrum.
“Personally, I don’t mind, and I’m ready to get the next Cyberpunk game ASAP,” one user shared. “But I don’t think it’s that crazy of a desire to have wanted a bit more from a game which famously started really s***ty and became better and better at each new update. People just wanted even more goodness.” Another user agreed, adding, “No one is asking for it to be infinite. But The Witcher 3 got two full DLCs and is getting an extra mission in these upcoming months. You can at least do one more expansion for 2077.”
At the time of writing, there are no official plans for more Cyberpunk 2077 content, but with CDPR famously surprising fans with random updates, a second DLC may not be impossible.
