On Reddit, gamers have coalesced to mull over the details of CD Projekt Red’s financial report from several months ago. In doing so, it seems certain that CD Projekt Red will not have Cyberpunk 2 out before 2028, with 2030 being the soonest that it might see the light of day (and even that would be optimistic).
Cyberpunk 2’s Release Date Was Narrowed Down, And You Might’ve Missed It
Reddit user 1ballbuster1 has neatly compiled a list of information we now have about Cyberpunk 2’s development, including that it will feature a brand-new city to explore that is inspired by a “Chicago gone wrong,” be a “joint project between CDPR’s Poland and Boston teams,” and have its development team “expected to scale up massively by the end of 2027.” This last bit is particularly interesting, though, as it suggests there are plans for The Witcher 4 to release in 2027, with full-scale production then beginning on Cyberpunk 2, as user Firelord743 argues.
Of course, any details we have about Cyberpunk 2, whether they are confirmed, deduced, or rumored, are subject to change in the next few years.
User Apprehensive_Door367 estimates that “we won’t get the next game till 2030,” and that seems highly likely due to how full CD Projekt Red’s plate is at the moment. Meanwhile, BrokenWindow_56 doesn’t seem to mind waiting years for Cyberpunk 2 to be released, so long as it is polished and complete when it does: “God, please let this game, however long it may take, come out in a finished state.”
Cyberpunk 2077 Fans Are In For A Long Wait
Nevertheless, the only guarantee gamers have is that it will, indeed, be years until we see Cyberpunk 2. This is assuming that everything goes swimmingly regarding development, and yet it will be fascinating to bear witness to how CD Projekt Red chews as much as it has apparently bitten off.
Thankfully, there is always a possibility that we will receive additional Cyberpunk 2077 updates as the years go by. Plus, we will have a new season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners at some point in the future, as well, and The Witcher 4 should be more than capable of occupying Cyberpunk 2077 fans who have yet to dip their toes into its warm waters.
