Now, according to a recent report, FromSoftware is indeed “deep into development” on an unannounced game alongside The Duskbloods, which launches later this year, as well as continued support for Elden Ring Nightreign. So could this unannounced title be a Dark Souls 3 remaster?
2026 Is Dark Souls 3’s 10th Anniversary
With Dark Souls celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, with Dark Souls III also celebrating its 10th, it is a big year for the hit FromSoftware franchise as a whole. Thanks to previous work from FromSoftware, both Dark Souls and Dark Souls II have already welcomed new-and-improved versions, but 2016’s Dark Souls III still awaits its modern-day makeover.
However, thanks to a report by MP1st, the studio behind the Dark Souls franchise, as well as Elden Ring and Armored Core, are now in the “advanced stages” of an unannounced title with the codename “FMC.” Citing an anonymous source, the report reveals that the mysterious title could launch as early as 2026, and ‘FMC’ could refer to previous codenames for projects under the Dark Souls or Armored Core banners.
So could it be an Armored Core 7, as it has been three years since the launch of the latest entry, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, or could this codename refer to the potential Dark Souls III remake? If not, it could be a new IP altogether.
Not Every Dark Souls Fan Sees The Point Of A Remaster
However, with Dark Souls III only releasing for the first time a decade ago, many would consider it fine the way it is, and for FromSoftware to focus on something else rather than a remaster. As such, fans took to r/darksouls3 to discuss the potential remaster, with one user sharing, “I know it doesn’t need it but man, I want it.”
“But why?” Asked another, in a since deleted comment. “The 60fps version looks amazing. There’s no need to remaster it.” Another agreed, adding, “It literally does not need anything done. It’s available on modern platforms at 60 FPS.” Additionally, another user summed it up perfectly, sharing, “I’d prefer a new game though. Just saying.”
With the consensus being that a remaster is not needed, whilst Dark Souls III already runs at 60fps and is available across multiple platforms, it seems as though a remaster would not be wholly appreciated by the fanbase. However, there is always money to be made, and despite fans’ trepidation, there is no denying that many of us would still purchase that shiny new release if it is announced later this year.
