After Henry Cavill gave life to Clark Kent in the DCEU movie timeline, Corenswet was cast as the hero for James Gunn’s Superman reboot. The actor was the first to lead a movie in Gunn’s new DC Universe, cementing Superman’s importance to the franchise. Now, we have the first official look at Superman’s next appearance after his solo movie, and it confirms an exciting streak.
David Corenswet’s Superman Officially Returns In 2026
DC has announced that the next Supergirl movie trailer will be released on Tuesday, March 31. House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock debuted as the heroine at the end of 2025’s Superman. Now, the studio is repaying that favor, with Corenswet’s Superman confirmed to appear in Supergirl. In the DCU movie’s first teaser, the Man of Steel was seen in a newspaper.
That has since evolved, with the first look at new footage of Corenswet as Superman emerging in the teaser that announced the Supergirl trailer’s release date. In the teaser, Corenswet’s Superman talks to Alcock’s Supergirl through a video message, checking in on Kara to let her know that he misses his cousin. Superman asks Supergirl when she will come back to Earth.
Superman Starts James Gunn’s DC Universe With A 4-Year Streak
Superman’s official 2026 DCU return in the form of the Supergirl movie confirms that the franchise is setting up a four-year streak for the hero. Corenswet’s Clark Kent will appear in at least one project in each of the DCU’s first four years, something similar to Chris Evans’ Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who had at least one MCU appearance for nine years in a row.
While Superman did not speak, the hero made his first DCU appearance as a cameo in the animated Creature Commandos. Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and more DC heroes were killed by the evil Princess Ilana Rostovic in a vision of a possible future shown by Circe to Amanda Waller in the episode “Chasing Squirrels,” which was released on December 19, 2024.
After that, Corenswet played Superman for the first time in his 2025 solo movie. Now, he is set to return this year in Supergirl, before Clark Kent is forced to work with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor to defeat Brainiac in 2027’s Man of Tomorrow. After Henry Cavill’s long DCEU absence generated a lot of criticism, the new DCU is perfectly correcting that by making David Corenswet’s Superman a franchise mainstay.
