Disney’s Aladdin Returns for a Brand-New Series in 2026

As an early-2000s kid, the era of VCRs and box television sets was still going strong, and to this day, I remember the coveted ritual of picking out a Disney movie from a stack of VHS tapes. One of my all-time favorites among the bunch? 1992’s Aladdin. To this day, I still catch myself humming “Arabian Nights,” so if you’re like me and still chasing that childhood nostalgia, Aladdin’s new series is exciting news.

The news is true. Aladdin is returning in 2026, and we aren’t talking about the live-action film starring Will Smith, but rather a classic cartoon-style return. Instead of heading back to the big screen for a new animated movie, Aladdin, Jasmine, Abu, and Genie are returning in a brand-new comic series from Dynamite.

While details about the series remain scarce, the covers released so far for Aladdin #1 suggest that the classic character designs will be back, which bodes well for anyone looking for a hit of childhood nostalgia.

The upcoming May 6, 2026, release of Aladdin #1 comes from creators James III and Agnese Eterno, with the main cover by Nicoletta Baldari. The preview also includes a handful of exceptionally fun variant covers, featuring artists such as Natacha Bustos, J. Scott Campbell, and Agnese Eterno. The first issue is now available for pre-order for $4.99.

Aladdin 2’s Filming Rumors Get Definitive Response From Disney Star After Sequel’s 6-Year Limbo

Aladdin star Naomi Scott gives a definitive update on a sequel movie’s filming rumors, six years after Disney’s hit live-action remake.

In true Genie spirit, this first issue brings the kind of fun you don’t need to rub a magic lamp to summon. Aladdin #1 features a special premium mystery variant blind bag that will contain three limited-edition issues, selected at random from a range of covers exclusive to this offering. However, Dynamite warns that the number of blind bags is limited, and allocations may occur.

Readers can find a full synopsis for the series below:

“WELCOME TO AGRABAH! Your wish is our command in this all-new series starring everyone’s favorite diamond in the rough, Aladdin!

Life is good these days for the former street rat…he’s with his love Jasmine, he’s got his buddies Abu and Carpet, and Genie is free to do…whatever it is that Genie wants to do. But trouble always seems to pop up around Al, and he’ll need the help of everyone he loves to save himself and the entire city of Agrabah!”

Aladdin’s Comic Return Could Recapture the Magic of Disney’s Classic 2D Animation

While Disney’s live-action adaptations of its classic films have been strong for the most part, especially Guy Ritchie’s 2019 adaptation starring Will Smith (Genie), Mena Massoud (Aladdin), and Naomi Scott (Jasmine), the studio’s classic 2D animation will always have a certain magic that modern live-action and special effects cannot fully replicate.

And while we have yet to see the interior art for Aladdin #1, it feels safe to assume that the classic art style from the 1992 film will return. This would capture the look fans originally fell in love with while expanding the Aladdin legacy through a brand-new, never-before-explored narrative for everyone’s favorite “street rat.”

Aladdin #1 from DYNAMITE is available on May 6, 2026!
