Elden Ring Officially Getting New DLC On All Platforms

Elden Ring is hands-down the most popular and beloved open-world RPG by developers at FromSoftware, and after the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, it wasn’t clear if players would be getting any official new downloadable content in the future. With Elden Ring Nightreign marking a shift in direction for the franchise, future DLC for Elden Ring seemed increasingly unlikely.

However, Elden Ring fans are in luck, as FromSoftware has officially announced brand-new DLC coming in 2026, though no specific release date has been revealed as of yet (via X).

Elden Ring Is Getting Brand-New Content

Elden Ring fans have an exciting year ahead, with an official new DLC coming by way of the highly anticipated Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition. While the main thrust of the Tarnished Edition is intended for Nintendo Switch gamers to experience the base game and SOTE DLC, it will also include “new weapons, armour Torrent skins, and more” that, according to FromSoftware, will be coming to all platforms as downloadable content.

This was first confirmed over a year ago in a tweet from FromSoftware’s official account, though the translation for this post was the subject of great debate among players on Reddit. While the social media post indicates that the additional content will be “sold” as a paid DLC, some Redditors think this is a mis-translation and that the DLC will actually be unpaid and available to claim on other platforms as soon as the Tarnished Edition launches.

FromSoftware has not offered official confirmation on whether the additional content will be released as a paid DLC, but it seems unlikely if there are not substantial new gameplay elements added akin to the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Further, fans probably have a bit of a wait on their hands, as Tarnished Edition has faced several delays and has no set release date as of this writing.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition Still Doesn’t Have A Release Date

If you’ve been keeping track of Elden Ring updates over the past year or so, you’re well aware of the delays that the upcoming Tarnished Edition has faced. With an original anticipated launch in 2025, performance ended up being a major issue on the Switch 2, and FromSoft felt it necessary to delay to 2026.

With no recent FromSoft announcements even mentioning Elden Ring, fans on Reddit are becoming a bit worried that we may not even see it this year due to optimization struggles with the Switch 2.

Ultimately, while it’s frustrating for gamers to be in the dark on Elden Ring‘s future and the upcoming release of Tarnished Edition, it’s probably a good thing that FromSoft is taking their time to ensure the DLC and Switch 2 performance are of the highest quality at launch.
