Elle Fanning & Michelle Pfeiffer’s New 8-Part Apple TV Series Based On Bestselling Novel Debuts To Elite Rotten Tomatoes Score

Margo’s Got Money Troubles, but she doesn’t have trouble winning over critics.

The upcoming Apple TV series, which just debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a spectacular score, was created by David E. Kelley and adapts the 2024 Rufi Thorpe novel of the same name. The Margo’s Got Money Troubles show stars Elle Fanning in the title role as a pregnant young woman who supports herself via OnlyFans while taking advice from her father (Nick Offerman), a former pro wrestler.

While the show, which also stars Michelle Pfeiffer, Nicole Kidman, and Greg Kinnear, does not air on Apple TV until April 15, it premiered at SXSW on March 12. Rotten Tomatoes has now aggregated enough critics’ reviews from SXSW to give it an official Tomatometer score. While the score could fluctuate as more reviews are added, Margo’s Got Money Troubles has earned a perfect 100%.

Critics’ individual Margo’s Got Money Troubles reviews aren’t giving the series perfect scores in and of themselves, with the highest ratings being 8 out of 10, 4 out of 5, and B+. The most common score for the series is 7 out of 10, but while some reviews are more mixed, critics have more or less universally praised the cast, especially recent Oscar nominee Elle Fanning.

So far, the show only has ten reviews, so it remains to be seen if it maintains its perfect score as it gets closer to air. However, it could very well be on a path to being Certified Fresh by the platform before long.

It also has some wiggle room if it hopes to be a record-breaking critical success. Even if it dips three points, it will tie with the 97% earned by 1987’s The Fabulous Baker Boys as the highest-rated Michelle Pfeiffer project in history.

As it stands, Margo’s Got Money Troubles‘ 100% score beats every Elle Fanning movie ever, surpassing the 96% earned by the Best Picture nominee Sentimental Value (which earned the actor her first Oscar nomination), tying with the 100% scores earned by The Great seasons 2 and 3.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles also gives David E. Kelly a rare 100% score, matching The Lincoln Lawyer seasons 3 and 4, and earns Nicole Kidman’s best Rotten Tomatoes score ever, on either the big or small screens. While it remains to be seen if audiences feel the same way as critics, this promising score could help the show become a solid hit for Apple TV.
