England cricketer Ben Duckett has been fined GBP 700 (approximately Rs 87,000) after getting caught speeding. The opening batter, who recently made headlines for pulling out of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, pleaded guilty to the offence on Friday, having been caught in August 2025 for speeding in his Land Rover on the A50 road in England. He was caught speeding at 93 kmph in a 70 kmph zone. The fine comes days after Duckett backed out of IPL 2026, giving up his Rs 2 crore contract.

The speeding fine adds to a difficult few months for Duckett, who was also at the centre of the drinking controversy surrounding the England cricket team during the 2025-26 Ashes Down Under. A viral video had shown a seemingly drunk Duckett unable to find his way back home during England’s mid-Ashes detour to Noosa.

Duckett pleaded guilty to speeding at Cannock Magistrates’ Court and was fined GBP 700 and ordered to pay a further GBP 120 in costs and GBP 280 victim surcharge. Four penalty points were also added to his driving license.

The 31-year-old was seemingly on top of the world in the summer of 2025, being one of England’s best batters in their Test series against India. He had also grown into an all-format regular for the national side.

However, after getting married in October, things haven’t gone to plan for Duckett, something he admitted himself in an emotional message.

“I got married in October, then hoped to win the Ashes down under, play a World Cup and win that. That was my vision at the start of the winter. The getting married bit is there, and I’m so happy about that! But after that? It couldn’t really have gone much worse,” he said in an interview with Telegraph Sport.

Duckett was bought for Rs 2 crore by Delhi Capitals for IPL 2026, but pulled out at the last minute citing the need to recover “physically and mentally”.

“Representing England is something I have dreamed of since I was a child, and I want to give everything I can to English cricket. To do that, I need to ensure I am in the best possible place physically and mentally ahead of the summer,” he said.

As a result of his withdrawal, Duckett faces a two-year ban from the IPL.
