In a conversation with Taylor Gates for an upcoming Collider Signature profile, Domingo teased Season 3’s themes and dished about what fans can expect for Ali ahead of the premiere on April 12th, saying:
“Everyone’s also looking for some grace now this season. Beyond grace, everyone’s looking for some faith. I think Sam [Levinson] has really leaned into something greater than ourselves. Ultimately, what is it about? What is this life experience about? Here’s maybe a spoiler — it’s about faith and believing in a higher power in some way, shape, or form, and believing and getting outside of yourself and saying that there’s something bigger. I think that maybe it’s a thing that I know that Sam and I connect on, which is that we know that love is bigger than all of us.”
Domingo continued to sing Levinson’s praises, calling him a “true collaborator.” He explained, “He never just says, ‘Oh, your character’s doing this.’ He’ll call me up and say, ‘What do you think about this? I’m thinking about these beats for Ali in this scene in this season.’ He really wants to please his cast and say, ‘Are you down with that?'” Domingo went on to express his gratitude for Levinson, saying, “He always gives me some really good in-depth moments. He’s given me some of the best moments that I’ve had on television. He’s really written them towards me and towards my strengths. Up until Sam, no one was really writing this complexity for me.”
Domingo highlights the special episode, titled “Trouble Don’t Last Always,” as one of the highlights of his experience on the show, calling the material “a gift.”
“It’s not only a gift for me, but it’s a gift for Zendaya and for, I think, the world. It really became a sermon about how you take care of yourself in this culture — in this world — and how everyone’s an addict in some way.”
What Is ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 About?
After nearly four years, Euphoria is finally returning, and it will feature a time skip. Season 3 will pick up with the characters five years after we last saw them. We’ll find Rue (Zendaya) in Mexico, still desperately trying to pay off her debt to Laurie, and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate (Jacob Elordi) getting married.
Many of the other characters will be pursuing some kind of creative endeavors, with Jules (Hunter Schafer) in art school, Maddy (Alexa Demie) working at a talent agency, and Lexi (Maude Apatow) a showrunner’s assistant to a woman played by Sharon Stone.
Sadly, Barbie Ferreira will not be returning as Kat, nor will Javon Walton appear as Ash, as the latter tragically died in Season 2. There will, however, be a slew of new high-profile stars joining the cast, including Natasha Lyonne, Eli Roth, and even Trisha Paytas.
Euphoria Season 3 premieres on April 12 on HBO and HBO Max. Stay tuned at Collider for our full profile with Domingo.
