Every Frieza Form in Dragon Ball History, Ranked From Weakest to Strongest

Frieza isn’t just one of the strongest villains in Dragon Ball, he’s one of the most iconic villains in anime. There are few, if any, antagonists that do it as well as he does.

From the very beginning, Frieza was evil incarnate. He’s evil, menacing, maniacal, and Goku’s opposite in every way. He’s the perfect foil for Goku, and his return in Dragon Ball Super has been nothing short of monumental.

Frieza, like most characters in Dragon Ball, has a ton of different forms. Interestingly enough, Frieza is the only character in the series to use transformations to lower his power. Most characters only get stronger as they transform, but Frieza is so ridiculously powerful that he has several transformations that allow him to limit his own sometimes uncontrollable power.

First Form

Frieza’s first form is the first form shown in Dragon Ball Z. It’s his weakest form by far, but it was still strong enough to take on several of the Z Fighters at once. His first form sees Frieza at his absolute smallest. He uses a pod to travel when in this form, has small horns on either side of his head, and usually uses a scouter to find out his opponent’s power level.

Frieza uses this form to downgrade his immense power. He had a hard time controlling his own power in his base form, so he created this form as a means of mitigating the unreal damage he does. This form never came back after the Namek Saga, as Frieza finally found opponents worthy of his base form.

Second Form

Frieza’s second form is a massive difference from his first. His second form is gargantuan in stature and arguably his largest form out of them all. He nearly triples in size, gains a monumental amount of muscle, and an equally absurd amount of raw power.

His second form shows off just how cruel Frieza is. He was in this form when he used his massive horns to impale Krillin, tossing him around like he isn’t one of the strongest characters in Dragon Ball. Like his first form, his second form didn’t last long, as he almost immediately transformed into his third form.

Third Form

Frieza’s third form is the most outrageous. His head looks like a Xenomorph from the Alien franchise while his muscles pour out of his body. This form showcases more of Frieza’s iconic white-and-purple design, but like his previous two forms, it doesn’t last long.

Frieza uses this form sparingly. Like the other two forms, he discovered this form as a means of lowering his power level so he wouldn’t accidentally destroy everything around him. It’s a grotesque form that only makes an appearance once, and it’s the final form of Frieza’s that lowers his power level.

Final Form

Frieza’s final form is actually his base form. The evil emperor is so powerful that he had to downgrade himself through the previous three forms in order to control his own unreasonably large amount of power. His base/final form sees Frieza shrink in size compared to his second and third forms, but his power does anything but shrink.

Frieza’s final form is amazingly strong. His Death Beam is one of the strongest attacks in Dragon Ball, and it’s also one of the most nonchalant. He can kill most characters by simply pointing a finger at them and shooting a beam of light. It’s such an overpowered attack that it got nerfed down the line, and it’s easy to see why.

Final Form (100% Full Power)

Frieza’s 100% Full Power form sees him draw out every inch of his power. He’s only used this form once, and it wasn’t enough. During Goku’s fight against Frieza on Namek, Frieza had the upper hand. He killed Krillin brutally, giving Goku the rage needed for the Super Saiyan transformation.

Once Goku transformed into a Super Saiyan, he became several times stronger than Frieza. Frieza thought that he could turn the tide of the fight back in his favor with this form, but it wasn’t enough. Goku dominated him and let Frieza slice himself in half with his own Death Saucer ability.

Mecha Frieza

It’s hard to tell whether Mecha Frieza is stronger than 100% Full Power Frieza, but Frieza himself says that his Mecha Form is his strongest yet when he was heading to Earth during the beginnings of the Android Saga. Future Trunks killed him in an instant, so it’s hard to tell just how strong this form is.

Mecha Frieza is an incredibly unique form that doesn’t have any real comparisons in the series. No other character has become half an android to continue living, and it seems to have boosted Frieza’s power level a considerable amount. It wasn’t enough for another Super Saiyan though, as Future Trunks made quick work of him and his father before Goku even returned.

Golden Frieza

Golden Frieza is an incredible form. After being defeated by Goku and Future Trunks, Frieza decided that he would train for the first time in his life. After training for a few months, Frieza was able to unlock this unbelievably powerful form. He came to Earth and was able to overpower both Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Vegeta.

Goku noticed Golden Frieza’s weakness fairly quickly. While this form gave Frieza more power than Super Saiyan Blue did for Goku or Vegeta, it came with a massive stamina drain. He used image training while in Hell to overcome this problem during the Tournament of Power.

Black Frieza

Black Frieza isn’t just Frieza’s absolute strongest form, it’s one of the strongest forms in the franchise. It’s a form that puts Frieza on the same level as the Gods of Destruction. While he may not be as strong as Beerus in this form, this form shows that Frieza is incredibly close.

Frieza unlocked this form after discovering a Hyperbolic Time Chamber on one of the planets he’s conquered. He used the chamber to train for an astounding ten years, emerging several times stronger. This form was able to knock out both Ultra Ego Vegeta and Ultra Instinct Goku with a single strike, showing that Frieza is once again stronger than his Saiyan rivals.
