Even unassuming releases like Undercover Miss Hong have completely taken fans by surprise, and things are only getting more exciting from here on out, especially with upcoming releases such as Season 2 of Bloodhounds. That said, before moving on to the next wave of releases, there’s one Netflix K-drama that deserves its dues.
Every K-Drama Coming To Netflix In 2026
Netflix has cultivated a reputation as a premier K-drama destination, and 2026 is set to bring many new Korean stories to its streaming library.
Netflix’s Boyfriend on Demand Is a Webtoon-Worthy Romance
While Disney Plus is pumping out webtoon adaptations such as The Remarried Empress and Portraits of Delusion in 2026, Netflix recently dropped an original that proves you don’t need a webtoon as the source material to make a great K-drama. Boyfriend on Demand recently dropped on Netflix on March 6, and its story sounds like it could be straight out of a webtoon.
Starring BLACKPINK’s Jisoo and Seo In-guk, Boyfriend on Demand follows Seo Mi-rae, a webtoon producer who, despite working with romance, has no time for it herself. This is when she comes across the virtual dating service Boyfriend on Demand, offering the option to choose from 999 virtual men, including the lead of the popular webtoon Mi-rae oversees.
While Mi-rae’s virtually rediscovering the thrill of romance through Boyfriend on Demand, in real life, things begin to get exciting when Mi-rae’s co-worker and fellow webtoon producer, Park Kyeong-nam, expresses an interest in her. Now, Mi-rae must choose whether to stay within the confines of the comfortable yet fictional or go out and seize the opportunity for romance for real, albeit at the risk of pain and heartbreak.
While Boyfriend on Demand may not be the most revolutionary release to come out of Netflix these last couple of months, there is no denying the series is enjoyable. With only ten episodes, the series is perfect for a one-day binge.
More importantly, Boyfriend on Demand is also a very easy watch, especially with its gorgeous, stacked male cast. Sure, it’s more of a lighthearted chick flick and doesn’t aspire to greatness, but it doesn’t have to, and that’s exactly what makes the series such a great palate cleanser.
Netflix Needs To Give Its New Hit K-Drama a Webtoon Adaptation
VR has been a popular trope in webtoons for quite some time, whether that is in action fantasies like The Gourmet Gamer, Overgeared, and Murim Login, or romances like My Bias is Obsessed With Me and One Husband is Enough. Boyfriend on Demand capitalizes on this very popular trope while still managing to tell a story that is grounded and rooted in reality.
As such, while it may not be based on a webtoon, Boyfriend on Demand has all the makings of one and could very well be adapted into a webtoon post-release. It wouldn’t be the first time that a popular Netflix K-drama has been adapted into a manhwa, with a few examples being King the Land and My Demon.
Although the K-drama does a good job of telling Seo Mi-rae’s story in only ten compact episodes, much like the King the Land manhwa, there may still be room for prequel stories as well as side stories following characters like Yun Song, the author of The Man to Know, or even Mi-rae’s best friend, Lee Ji-yeon.
All that to say, if you haven’t checked out Boyfriend on Demand already, now’s the perfect time. Even if it may not seem like your cup of tea at first, stick with it, and the series may just pleasantly surprise you.
