Extraction 3’s Filming Start Window Revealed For Chris Hemsworth’s Netflix Sequel

Two years after the second film was released on Netflix, a major production update has now been revealed for Extraction 3.

According to What’s On Netflix, Extraction 3 is expected to begin filming in June 2026 and end on October 9. Unlike the first two installments, which were filmed in Thailand, India, and Prague, production for the upcoming sequel will be based in Sydney, Australia. Additional filming will also take place in Europe, though specific locations have not been revealed yet.

Interestingly, Sydney was supposed to be the main shooting location for Extraction 2, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed those plans.

San Hargrave, who has 20 years of experience as a stunt coordinator on projects like Dexter, Conan the Barbarian, three Hunger Games movies, Suicide Squad, and Deadpool 2, directed the first two films and will return for Extraction 3.

Joe and Anthony Russo serve as producers, with Joe Russo writing the scripts. They’ve worked together with Hargrave on Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame. Other producers include Mike Larocca, Eric Gitter, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Peter Schwerin.

The Russo Brothers and Ande Parks wrote the graphic novel Ciudad, on which Extraction is based. The story centers around Hemsworth’s character, Tyler Rake, a former member of the Australian Special Air Service Regiment who sets out on an extremely dangerous mission to save a crime lord’s son, but unexpected obstacles arise that threaten to derail his plans.

The film earned mixed-to-positive reviews, with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 67% from critics and 71% from audiences.

Extraction 2 sees Rake getting himself involved in a rescue that hits close to him, as he attempts to rescue his ex-wife’s imprisoned family. Critics praised the sequel, which is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with an 80% score, while the audience score currently sits at 84%.

Idris Elba, Golshifteh Farahani, and Olga Kurylenko, who co-starred with Hemsworth in Extraction 2, will be back for the next installment, based on comments Hargrave made last fall, though Netflix hasn’t revealed the official cast list yet. Along with Extraction 3, plans are currently underway to expand the franchise with the spinoff film Tygo and the eight-episode TV show Mercenary: An Extraction Series.

Hemsworth is best known for playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s also starred in such films as Star Trek, The Cabin in the Woods, Snow White and the Huntsman, Ghostbusters (2016), Men in Black: International, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and the recently-released Crime 101.

A release date for Extraction 3 hasn’t been announced.
