In an X post, Bethesda revealed a March 26 update for Fallout 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 and provided a breakdown of the new features. The biggest highlight is the addition of Nvidia DLSS, giving the game a new way to balance resolution and performance with scaling technology. The patch also notes that “DLSS automatically disengages for UI-heavy screens,” meaning the Pip-Boy should still be crisp and clear.
Fallout 4 Just Got A Big Switch 2 Update
DLSS & Much More
Fallout 4 wouldn’t be a Bethesda game without some bugs, and the new patch also tackles a number of them. Several crashes have been targeted, including one that could be triggered by “docking or undocking the system during gameplay,” which is a pretty significant selling point of the Switch 2. Another fix specific to Switch 2 hardware promises better “controller handling when switching between Joy-Cons and wireless controllers.”
Other adjustments deal with less pressing issues, like missing visual effects, HUD glitches, and more. It also sounds like the port will be a lot better in other languages going forward, with fixes for missing characters, font handling, and icons in various translations.
Fallout 4 On Switch 2 Is An Excellent Port
Even Better Now
I’m not always the biggest fan of DLSS, but it definitely seems like an improvement here compared to the blurry graphics in 60 FPS mode that Fallout 4‘s Switch 2 port presented at launch. For anyone bothered by the unattractive results of Nvidia’s recent DLSS 5 showcase, don’t worry — this is still classic, normal DLSS, not a uniquely overwrought AI filter.
Bethesda has been treating the Switch 2 well this year, as February also brought a major update to the Switch 2 version of The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim and announced ports of Oblivion Remastered and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
It doesn’t seem like The Elder Scrolls 6 or Fallout 5 will be coming any time soon, but these updates for Fallout 4 and more hopefully mean that the publisher is committed to Switch 2 for the foreseeable future. If the rumored Fallout 3 remaster is truly on the way, for example, the Switch 2 could be a perfect destination.
