Fallout Legends Is Massive, Will Keep You Busy Till Fallout 5

As much as the reality may be hard to wrestle with if you’re a longtime, avid fan of the franchise, no new Fallout games are on the way any time soon, so if you’re looking to get a post-apocalyptic fix now that the second season of the Prime Video series is finished, you’ll likely have to get a little more creative.

There’s always the option of turning to the developer’s ongoing live service release Fallout 76, which is a considerably more compelling offering than it was back in 2018, but multiplayer settings like that understandably aren’t for everyone.

That leaves the older games as the most appealing option for the most part, and whilst they can still be fantastic to play through in their own right, mods can add a whole new layer to the experience. If you’re a fan of Fallout 3, one has just released a finalized version that extensively changes the experience in a lore-friendly way.

Fallout Legends Is The Ultimate Fallout Experience

Over on Nexus Mods, you should be able to find the page for Fallout Legends, which pitches itself as, “a Post Apocalyptic Simulation with a dash of Mutant RPG.” It adds a ton of factions, groups, characters and lore from Fallout 1–4, all in a way that fits relatively seamlessly within the existing story (with some additional exposition).

It includes story beats surrounding characters from the early games, including The Vault Dweller, The Lone Wanderer and Frank Horrigan, as well as noteworthy inclusions from later games like The Railroad, The Institute and Synths.

Fallout 3 is a great game in its own right, but rolling in all of these additional narrative elements makes it feel much bigger and more integrated than ever before.

It also adds a bunch of iconic gear, weapons and armor from other games in the series, including the Tesla Armor from the first two releases, the Armored Chinese Stealth Suit, water breathing gear and even the mysterious pink suit of Power Armor that can usually only be found in the game files.

Play This While You Wait For Fallout 5

Given that Bethesda are very much focused on getting The Elder Scrolls VI into players’ hands as soon as possible, it’s going to be years before us Fallout fans actually get to play Fallout 5. Whilst production is now underway at the very least, it takes years to get a project of that scale into a playable state, so modding the early games is still the best way to play in the meantime. With Fallout Legends, there are hours of new content to explore, so it’s a great bet in the meantime.
