Fallout Returning In 2027 With A New Game

The release of Fallout 5 is still a very long time away, with almost all of Bethesda Entertainment’s focus on getting The Elder Scrolls VI into the hands of the public as quickly as possible, which is understandable given that Skyrim released all the way back in 2011.

Until then, we’re going to have to get our fill of the post-apocalypse in other ways, and one of the best approaches to that is to simply go back and play the older games. That said, you can’t be blamed for having explored every little nook and cranny that those releases have to offer already, but that’s where the franchise’s extensive modding community comes into play.

With that in mind, if you’re a Fallout: New Vegas PC player, there’s one upcoming mod release that you should absolutely be aware of heading into next year.

Fallout Chicago Is Aiming To Launch Early 2027

As first reported by Rock Paper Shotgun, the developers behind Fallout Chicago, a huge DLC-sized mod for Fallout: New Vegas, have put out a roadmap for their process, and they’re aiming to have all three acts of the main story complete and out there for the public to play by the latter half of 2027.

That comes after the team released an extensive demo for the game, which basically allows players to work through the entirety of the game’s first act, as well as a bunch of side quests, and new points of interest to explore. As you might expect, there’s a certain mob element that’s set to feature heavily, with the mod description reading as follows:

“Fallout Chicago is a DLC sized expansion to the critically acclaimed Fallout New Vegas. You’ll set out to solve pre-war mysteries, post-war politics between The Union Mob and Midwest Brotherhood along with other factions dilemmas. Chicago is dangerous and fraught with betrayal. Do you have what it takes to make it out on your mission? Hell, this was supposed to be a side job after all?”

It’s a very cool and lore-appropriate premise, and one that could end up being an all-time great example of modding, if things pan out the way they’re supposed to over the next year or so.

If it wasn’t obvious already, Fallout Chicago is a bit of a love letter to the franchise overall, taking it to a location that players have actually been requesting from Bethesda for a long time. Hopefully the popularity of the mod gives them pause for thought in their approach to the next game, as a full release set in the Windy City could be a brilliant next step for the series.
