Final Fantasy 9 Officially Returns With New Release From Square Enix

Final Fantasy 9 is easily one of the most beloved entries in the Final Fantasy franchise, and is widely hailed as one of the best JRPGs ever created. After over 25 years since the masterpiece’s release, Final Fantasy 9 fans have had their fingers crossed for any new content they can get their hands on.

And they’re in luck, as Square Enix has officially launched a brand-new Final Fantasy 9 release that fans of the iconic game will definitely want to add to their collections (via Square Enix).

Final Fantasy 9 Fans Rejoice, We’re So Back

Final Fantasy 9 has officially made a triumphant return with Square Enix’s release of the “Final Fantasy 9: House Grooves” album, a 12-track original collection of remixed FF9 music reimagined with unique house-style jams. The official listing is described as follows:

Relive the journey that made us rethink what it means to ‘live.’ The nostalgic yet powerful melodies of FINAL FANTASY IX are re‑crafted and immersed in the rich echoes of deep house music. From the misty mystery of ‘Danger in the Forest’ to the cosmic edge of ‘Terra,’ these 12 tracks transform iconic tunes into sleek, floor‑shaking club beats. A set of warm yet striking dance‑music tributes—created for everyone who once stepped into that unforgettable world.

The 12-track CD version is already officially available for purchase for Japanese markets via Square Enix’s website, with digital downloads available now for a select few tracks. It appears the full imported version of the CD will be available to North American audiences in April 2026, and is available for pre-order now (via Square Enix NA).

The FF9 House Grooves album is listed for ¥3,300 (after tax) and roughly $28.00 USD, and features classic Final Fantasy 9 song adaptations from artists such as SEQUENCE, Lonely Boy, DJ Synthesizer, Kai Saruwatar and many more. Further, the full track list is available for preview on the Square Enix Japan website as well, and features the following 12 tracks:

  1. A Place to Call Home
  2. Not Alone
  3. Battle 1 ~ Vamo’alla flamenco
  4. Over the Hill
  5. Something to Protect ~ Roses of May
  6. Black Mage Village
  7. Danger in the Forest
  8. Terra
  9. Freya’s Theme
  10. Village of Dali
  11. A Song From Her Memory
  12. Prelude

Are We Getting A Final Fantasy 9 Remake?

While the “House Grooves” album is full of bangers that fans of Final Fantasy 9 are sure to love, the burning question on everyone’s mind is when and if we will ever see an official Final Fantasy 9 remake. Back in 2021, a reported “leak” sent waves of rumors through the fanbase, leaving many players extremely hopeful that a FF9 remake announcement was on the way.

However, it’s been over five years since the infamous “NVIDIA GeForce” leak, and Square Enix still hasn’t confirmed (or denied) its existence, leaving players in the dark. That said, it seems awfully suspicious that Square Enix would continue to lean into Final Fantasy 9 marketing for various products without anything in the works behind the scenes, and with the game’s 25-year anniversary in full swing, here’s hoping an official remake announcement drops before year’s end.
