Final Fantasy 9 Remake Leak Is Bad News For Fans

We’ve all been hoping for new regarding a Final Fantasy 9 remake, but the game seems to be eluding us. Despite some recent FF9 merch and a celebration of its 25th anniversary, there’s been no word on FF9 Remake lately. However, a recent mention from NatetheHate is a bad sign. While most headlines understandably focused on the Ocarina of Time remake, there were tidbits regarding FF9 Remake as well.

Over on YouTube, popular (and often reliable) leaker and inside NateTheHate mentioned that there’s still no movement regarding a Final Fantasy 9 remake. The moment takes place around the 57-minute mark if you’d like to watch it for yourself. Basically, though, there’s no news, which is actually bad news for all of us clamoring for a remake of FF9. You can view the video here:

It appears the anticipated remake is in a development pause right now. Whether that means the game is canceled altogether or simply delayed for a bit, we don’t know. Either way, it doesn’t look like we’re getting a remake of Final Fantasy 9 anytime soon.

Final Fantasy 9 Remake Is Still On Ice

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that development of Final Fantasy 9 Remake may be paused. NatetheHate previously said the remake was on ice back in October. Now, almost six months later, it appears there’s still no movement related to FF9 at Square Enix, which feels even more ominous. That’s a long time for their to be no new updates on a game that’s seemingly still in development.

And while all of this is coming from the same source, and someone might argue the information is incorrect, there hasn’t been any suggestions from other reliable leakers that contradict NatetheHate’s comments. In fact, the silence surrounding Final Fantasy 9 Remake just adds to that ominous feeling we’re never actually getting this game.

FF9 Remake Might Be A Lost Cause

Final Fantasy 9’s Vivi looks upward.

Final Fantasy 9 Remake sounds awesome on paper, but considering we’ve gotten no updates on it (or even official confirmation it exists), this is a bad sign. Considering it was such a huge part of the NVIDIA leak, it’s likely the game was in development at one point, but production has since stalled.

Given what we’re hearing about FF9 Remake, it seems like the highly-anticipated remake is on the backburner at Square Enix for now. For anyone hoping to get to see Vivi, Zidane, Dagger, and company in an updated capacity, it’s not looking great. If we ever actually get a Final Fantasy 9 remake, it’s likely still years away.
