GTA 6 Fans Torn Over Major Unexpected New Announcement

Grand Theft Auto 6 is officially set to launch in just a matter of months now, and after a tumultuous journey leading up to this point, fans are finally sighing in relief that a November launch seems to be fully locked in (knock on wood).

However, a new major and unexpected announcement has divided Grand Theft Auto 6 players once again, leaving many questioning whether they’re going to have to change up their plans entirely (via X).

Project Helix Is The Next Xbox

Xbox came out of nowhere this week and decided to drop some massive news regarding the next-generation Xbox console, code-named “Project Helix.” The announcement sent shockwaves through the gaming community, with fans of just about every upcoming major IP wondering about the implications of a new Xbox console.

GTA 6 fans in particular went into a brief panic, questioning whether the PlayStation 5 is going to end up being the best console to play the game on in the long run. While there’s no question that the PS5 Pro will be the top choice when the game first launches, Project Helix is reportedly being designed to meet top-line benchmarks and make its games playable on PC, and will almost certainly outperform current-gen options across the board.

With GTA 6 releasing later this year, some fans argue that “PS5 Pro might no longer be the best place to play GTA 6,” and the new Project Helix announcement has huge implications—especially for players who want the absolute best experience playing the game.

Other players like mohbii are convinced this is part of the reason GTA 6 took so long and could even explain its past delays: “Project Helix bridging Xbox and PC means Rockstar now has 3 major platforms to develop for at launch. Every conspiracy theory about why GTA VI kept getting pushed back just got a new supporting piece of evidence.”

GTA 6 Fans Are Hoping For A Next-Gen Release

While players already knew that GTA 6’s preferred platform would be the PS5 Pro when the game releases, they weren’t necessarily expecting another next-generation Xbox console as an alternative in the future. While the PlayStation 6 console would certainly include a GTA 6 next-gen release at some point, a next-gen Project Helix release is even more exciting, and could possibly even launch sooner depending on when Helix hits the market.

All told, fans are just happy that they’re talking about the future of Grand Theft Auto 6 and not worrying about if it’s going to release at all. The past few years have been taxing on players, with more twists, turns, and delays than anyone had hoped for. With all of that behind us, there’s a lot to look forward to for Grand Theft Auto 6 fans.
