After what feels like a lifetime of waiting, Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally set to launch on November 19. The hype is as strong as it’s ever been, but recent reports confirm that the game will in fact be completely unplayable for millions of gamers in specific parts of the world.
Everybody is definitely looking forward to GTA 6‘s gorgeous-looking single-player, which will be an incredible game with a vast open-world all on its own. Heck, from what we’ve seen, there are tons of side activities and features to keep players busy for years. But attention will quickly turn to GTA 6′s online multiplayer component, which is where the issues begin. New laws could stop a whole host of players from playing, leaving gamers baffled and angry.

Michael De Santa “I want something that isn’t this.” You’re the retired pro who can’t quite let go of the game. You appreciate the finer things — good scotch, classic films, a well-executed plan — but beneath the polished surface is someone who’s never truly at peace. You overthink everything, your family thinks you’re impossible, and you’re probably in therapy. But when it counts? Nobody plans a job better than you.
Strategic Jaded Sophisticated Nostalgic
🔥
Trevor Philips “I’m not a hipster. I’m a survivor.” You’re the unfiltered force of nature that polite society pretends doesn’t exist. Rules bore you, plans are suggestions, and your default setting is “maximum intensity.” People think you’re unhinged — and they’re not entirely wrong — but there’s a twisted honesty to you that the world secretly needs. You’re fiercely loyal to those who earn it, and absolutely terrifying to everyone else.
Unpredictable Fearless Loyal Chaotic
🌟
Franklin Clinton “I gotta get out the hood, homie.” You’re the ambitious one who sees the bigger picture while everyone else is stuck in their ways. Street-smart, level-headed, and hungry for more — you’re not about drama, you’re about progress. People underestimate you because you stay quiet, but you’re always three moves ahead. Loyalty runs deep, and you never forget where you came from — you just refuse to stay there.
Ambitious Loyal Grounded Resourceful
As originally reported by PC Gamer, Australia has introduced a new set of age verification laws that require users to verify their age in order to play 18+ games that support multiplayer. This impacts games like the current GTA Online, rendering it unplayable to gamers who can’t verify their age. It will also invariably have the same effect on GTA 6 Online when it launches.
The important thing to note is, at least at this stage, this law does not have an impact on offline, single-player content. Younger gamers can still play GTA 5, then, and should have no trouble playing GTA 6‘s single-player content (not that we’re officially endorsing under 18 gamers play under 18 games, of course).
If you think you might have gotten off the hook because you don’t live in Australia, I should point out similar laws now also exist in the United Kingdom, meaning GTA 6 Online will be very hard to play for younger gamers, assuming they find a way around the system at all.
GTA 6 Fans Are Baffled And Angry

There are very few gamers who see this as a good thing. Even those planning to buy GTA 6 who are actually old enough don’t love the idea of having to upload their ID or prove their identity online.
“Can’t wait for all the IDs to get leaked or used maliciously,” writes one Reddit user. “Gosh I want to vomit when I read about these stupid regulations.”
“Having your personal information on the internet is very dangerous,” agrees another. “I guess the world has gone mad.”
Others argue that games have age ratings for a reason, and these should be enough to stop young kids from playing games they shouldn’t be playing. We all know that doesn’t often work though, don’t we?
“It’s [an] R18 game,” one gamer says. “There’s no need to enforce it. The parent should be blamed for that if a child is playing that game at all. That’s bull.”
Another reasons: “On one hand, kids shouldn’t be playing GTA. They really shouldn’t be playing online games at all, especially if they’re under 13. But this is stupid. Nobody should have to show ID to play a video game.”
It’s unlikely that these kinds of age checks are going to be reversed or done away with before GTA 6 launches in November, sadly.
