Whenever it does actually arrive, there are millions of players waiting in the wings, many of whom will be there on day one to work through the single-player experience. That number will almost certainly rise further once the multiplayer launches a little later, and they’ll likely be locked in from there.
One group of eager fans who are set to be locked out of the early fun are those who don’t own a console and play exclusively on the PC. There’s definitely going to be a significant time gap between the console and PC versions, and that’s a future that’s proving genuinely difficult to wrestle with for some.
When Is GTA 6 Coming To PC?
Over on Reddit, one fan shared a light-hearted meme in which a PC player won’t be able to play the game because their specs aren’t particularly good, when in reality they won’t be able to play because it won’t release on PC for a very long time.
So how long will that wait actually be? Whilst it’s currently difficult to say exactly, we can look at the launch strategies for both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 to see if those can offer a guide to exactly what Rockstar is intending.
The gap between the arrival of GTA V on console, in September 2013, and PC, in April 2015, was an upsetting 19 months. At the same time, things were a little less bleak for Red Dead Redemption 2, with a gap of around a year between the console and PC releases for that.
If the latter serves as a more accurate guide (given its more recent release), that means PC players likely won’t be getting their hands on GTA VI until the Christmas period in 2027.
PC Gamers Might Be In For A Very Long Wait
Whatever Rockstar does decide to do with the release of GTA VI, they’ll want to nail down the console version of the game before bringing it across to PC. As a platform, PC comes with significantly more potential issues, particularly around cheating and hacks in the multiplayer, and those will all need to be addressed before it does launch. That means a long wait for PC-exclusive players, with little way around it in the meantime other than buying a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X.
