There’s little doubt that GTA VI is going to be a game of almost unrivaled ambitious and scope, with the full project set to cost at least $1 billion according to most projections, with some even putting that outlay beyond $2 billion.
Whichever is true, it’s a very expensive game, and that has led to some fears that players may have to spend a lot more than they are used to in order to get their hands on it. Now, things are seemingly finally starting to get moving, and we could have news on a final price before too long.
GTA 6 Pre-Orders May Be Coming Sooner Than Expected
Over on Twitter/X, the profile PlayStation Game Size shared an interesting update, confirming that the Grand Theft Auto VI title IDs have been added to the PlayStation database. This is always the first step to games appearing in the store, meaning we could finally be getting a look at pre-orders before long.
Rockstar has chosen the PlayStation 5 as the console that they will be working the most closely with for the launch of GTA VI, which is understandable given how well it has sold compared to the Xbox. That likely means they will have the initial exclusive for all the pricing info around release, before it’s extended out to other stores.
We’re actually behind schedule if you look at the release plan for other GTA games, with pre-orders for GTA V being made available almost a full year before the game’s release, in November 2012. With that in mind, fans are going to have to keep everything crossed that there won’t be any more delays.
How Much Will GTA 6 Cost?
So what does this all mean for the final cost of GTA VI? Well, it’s going to come at a premium, and it might be the most expensive standard edition we have seen for a game so far. Whether Rockstar will make the scary leap to $100 isn’t clear yet, but we can certainly expect it to cost players at least $80 when all is said and done.
The only potential caveat is that Rockstar knows they will make considerably more money from GTA Online (once it launches) than they ever would from selling copies of the game, though how much they make from that is dependent on how many they sell in the first place, so don’t expect it to come cheap.
