GTA 6’s Official Map Is Bigger Than We Ever Dreamed

Assuming Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar don’t rug pull us one more time and delay the game into 2027, we are finally rapidly approaching the release of Grand Theft Auto VI and whatever that may bring, it’s an exciting time to be a fan.

Given that we’re only a little over six months out from the big day, at the time of writing, we still know remarkably little about what it’s actually going to be like. The two trailers allowed us to glean some details, but outside of that, we’re left turning to leaks and rumors to get a better understanding of the scope of the game.

One of the most interesting areas of speculation is the map, which promises to be bigger and more detailed than any we have had in the GTA series thus far. That’s kind of the bare minimum at this point though, given how long ago GTA V released, but there is good evidence that Rockstar has really gone all in on the setting of the new game.

How Big Is GTA 6’s Map?

Based on community mapping efforts and what we’ve been able to glean from leaks, the map in GTA VI is set to be around 2.5 times larger than the one we got in its predecessor, with biomes ranging from the swamps of the Leonida Keys to the city scapes we’ve seen featured heavily in the two trailers.

The very cool thing is that on a moment-to-moment basis, it should also feel a lot larger. That’s thanks to the massively increased draw distance which the trailers used to make them feel so alive, and assuming that’s possible in the final version of the game, it should be an experience like no other.

Over on Reddit, in a post pointing that fact out, fans were predictably excited to start exploring everything the world has to offer. “This is what a billion dollars in development gets you. A new benchmark,” one comment read.

“Incredible. I think this game is going to blow us all away when we land in Vice City,” another added.

We’ll Be Playing GTA 6 For Years

If you’re a fan of the franchise, it really does feel like GTA VI has all the potential ingredients to blow the fans away for years to come. Once they add multiplayer to the equation, the sky really is the limit, and Rockstar’s next epic will do everything it can to keep its claws in us for a long time to come.
